Confused about Lawrence pickup choices - considering other brands
Hi,
I want to change pickups on 4 guitars - 2 Teles, and 2 Les Paul types. I have tried to get information from Bill Lawrence, and spoke to Becky, she promised to answer my emails - months ago. Now my 1 guitar is in the shop, and time is running out. I just can't 'drive to town' to get my guitars worked on, I have to fly to Bangkok, and pay for a hotel room, which adds to the degree of difficulty. As I live in Thailand, to call them, I have to do so in the early morning hours here (9 hours difference). Almost all the calls get picked up by an answering machine. I would like some good quiet pickups for the Teles that still produce a better than stock tele sound. I had a Jerry Donahue on my stolen Tele, and liked that a lot. I'll be playing all my guitars through a Dumble clone. The guitar that needs the pickups the quickest is in the shop right now. It is a 1977 Ibanez Artist EQ. Presently I have 30 year old DiMarzio's on it. A PAF in the neck position, and a Dual-Sound at the bridge. I was hoping to buy all the pickups from the same source to get combined shipping to Thailand. From all I've heard the Lawrence pickups are great. I could order them online, but there are many choices and combinations. Becky recommended one set if I had an ashtray bridge, but if I change it to a less magnetic bridge (which I want to do) recommended another. In our hasty conversation I scribbled some confusing notes. I think she recommended the L-290 for the Tele's bridge, and can't remember what she recommended for the neck. She recommended the L500 R for the neck and L500 XL for the bridge on the Ibanez (the 4th guitar is a Guild Bluesbird). I'm willing to go with another manufacturer like Seymore Duncan, as long as I can get all 8 pickups in a reasonably short time. I'm open to all suggestions. Thanks, Buzzer |

honestly i think that the words fast and bill lawrence don't work well, but at the other hand the pickups are worth the extra effort and time.
and that effort will save you some money because 'the big names' in the pickup market are also charging big prices. maybe, if you want the BL you could ask specific questions on the wildgate forum http://guitarsbyfender.yuku.com/foru...ilde-Gate.html if you can tell what you want to play, what sound you are after maybe there you can have more info about the l500 ore the new L90 pickups. over here there is are a lot of people that can tell you about the tele and other single coil products of BL. so my advise, get clear what you are looking for tell us and you get good answers
