Duncan Little 59'
About 6 or 7 months ago I bought a Squier thinline (in shoreline gold of course!), and while it's a beautiful guitar I absolutely hate the way it sounds.
I'm more of a blues man, but a friend is trying to recruit me into a "hard rock" band (like Chevelle, Hurt, etc.) and instead of buying a new guitar with Humbuckers I thought about trying the Seymour Duncan Little 59 pickup. My question is: Will it rock hard enough to do music like that or are they still a little "thin" to appeal to the average Tele player? I almost bought a Hagstrom Ultra-Swede (or at least I think that's the name), but I thought this a much cheaper route that could also make the thinline more usable. |

Yes, they will rock hard enough under the right "drive".

Very true, I'm thinking of investing in a Tubescreamer or something.
As I said I'm more of a blues guy so I mainly just use fuzz with a very, very light amp overdrive from my Blues Jr. |

You'll be fine. May not be the exact same as a full humbucker but you'll have enough chunk to get what you need from it.

I have a Blues Junior and the only pedal I use (occasionally for leads) is a Maxon OD808. It's a reissue of the original Tubescreamer and set as a low-gain boost it works a treat. That's the trick with Tubescreamers...you use them with the gain set low.
I went thru a number of real and supposed 'Tubescreamer' pedals before settling on this one. It was the most transparent and responsive. |
