Telecaster Deluxe pick up questions
Hi, I just got a mexican made telecaster deluxe. When I first played the guitar in the store I loved it, but over the last few days of playing it the guitar just doesnt feel right(especially while playing rhythm parts). I love Radiohead and the chili peppers( give you an idea for the kind of sound I'm looking for). Would it be possible to replace the wide range pick ups with lace sensor pick ups? If so what kind of sounds to expect with them? Are there any single coil pick ups that will fit and give me original tele sound? What about using a lace sensor pick up and a single coil?

Biggest problem with the wide-rangers is the bridge on these guitars is 2 7/32"...the string spread is way larger than almost any aftermarket pickup available. I doubt the laces will just be a drop in, unfortunately. I've been wondering lately if there are any aftermarket bridges with a standard string spacing that would drop in, but I have my doubts that would even work proper.
For the longest time on my thinline, I had a duct-taped humbucker in the bridge, but I was always sacrificing somewhere...high end in my case, as the high E string wouldn't even hover over a pole piece at that point. I just had a custom humbucker made by Pete @ Vintage Vibe Guitars, designed to be a drop-in for the bridge, and hopefully tonally similar to what I pulled out! (haven't received it yet...) But, you might drop him a line, and see if he can work some magic. I can't personally comment yet, but a lot of people around these parts love his work, and he's willing to take your description of tone and try to put that into a pickup. It's a lot cheaper than I would've expected for a custom pickup, too. |

How much did the custom pick ups run you? Any idea on the return policy at guitar center? Im kinda regretting my decision to get this guitar now!especially since they had this really nice american tele for about the same price!
Thanks for the info. |

Also how do you go about requesting custom pick ups on the vintage vibe website? And would love to know how your pick ups sound when you get them.Any other alternatives beside vintage vibe?

I swapped my bridge and neck pup and have 500k pots and am very happy with the guitar. There are pole drop and pole removal tricks originally suggested my Fralin to a user here, detail in threads. I have the fralin trick in test, so if you can't find it via a search we will help ya get it. Robt |
