Which Tele bridge pup to compliment a P90 neck?

One that would match or at least be close to the volume achieved by a P90. Would a Nocaster "type" compete?

A Nocaster pickup might be a little weak. If you found a Nocaster style pickup with Alnico 5 it would be more compatible. Is a chrome cover on the neck pickup a must for your set up?

I go with a Harmonic Design S90. But that's a little different than a standard tele bridge pickup, as it's meant to be P90ish itself.

I have a GFS 60s Tele Bridge PU, which is 9.6k, along with a GFS Soapbar p90 in the neck. They match pretty good, though the top of P90 is almost flush with the pickguard...maybe 1-2mm off the PG...

DiMarzio PRE-B1. It's one of the few Tele pickups that will hang with a P-90 and still sound Tele.

I use a Don Mare 0038 11k or more with a Duncan P-90 neck pickup. Works well.

I'm going to put a Duncan Quarter Pound to match my Phat Cat p90. I'll let you know what it sounds like.

Here is a Harmonic Design S-90 in the bridge with a Duncan Phat Cat P-90 in the neck.
They sound great together, but the Phat Cat is really loud in comparison.

To make them work, the Phat Cat is lowered to level with the mounting ring, and the S-90 is raised about as much as comfortably possible.

I wouldn't change it, they sound great, but quite a volume difference, which I found surprising since the S-90 is around 11K or so if I remember right...

I had a similar issue with a humbucker in the neck of my Tele overpowering the bridge pickup in terms of output and low end. I went for a Bareknuckles Piledriver and it's perfect: lots of depth but enough highs too. It's pretty much what I would have expected a P90 style pickup in the bridge to sound like, but still retaining the Tele tone.

That's a mighty nice looking Tele there, Drak! I like that sound-hole, sweet.

*********

Have any of ya'll give thought to running 2 volume controls so you can modulate a No-Caster output pickup with a P-90 or Phat Cat and still retain the versatility of 2 different power pickups?

Much obliged.

I strongly suggest this. It all depends in what you're looking to get from the bridge. I think the S90 does a great job giving a tele bridge P90 the right amount of punch and twang, especially paired with a standard soapbar.
