To rewind or not to...
A friend of mine who was playing my 64 telecaster lately
made me aware of the fact that my bridge pup starts to sound "thin". - I guess he should know cuz he's the one I got it from 8 years ago and he hasn't played it since - Would it be a good idea to have a rewind ? Ted Oberg in Holland (former Livin' Blues) has a repu- tation of doing a good job... I was told by someone that pick ups have to age to make them sound better. Does this mean that a rewind will make this p up sound like a new one and I will loose my 'vintage' tone ? Haven't decided yet what to do...Any opinions ? Many thanks, John.

my opinion, if it works, leave it
If it doesn't work, rewind it. That "thin / aged" sound is what "an" owner of that pickup would be looking for...
If you want a different sound, get a different pickup, before you decrease the value of that one.

IE...
working, pre-CBS, Fender tele pickup could fetch over 300 bucks in the open market.
A non-working one would fetch between 100 to 150.

Thanks for the advice Darrell,to be honest I didn't even notice the sound was gettin' thinner untill the bloke told me...hard to notice when it's played a lot- don't even remember how it sounded 8 years ago when I bought it.Guess the sound gradually alters by getting older.Perhaps this is normal. In any case there's quite a diff in sound compared to my 69 telecaster. I'll stick to it , will only consider a rewind if it actually dies...Thanks again for the good advice. John
