Tone Control on "Wide Range" Fender Humbucker

Hey. Got a question. I have two 72 Custom re-issues. I love them both. they have the "Wide Range' Fender humbucker in the neck, and a single coil in the bridge. They have separate tone and volume controls for each pick-up. The tone controls are very usable throughout the range of the pot.

Well, I just picked up a 72 Thinline, which has two of the "Wide Range" fender pickups. However, this guitar only has one tone and one volume. I have noticed that the tone control is pretty much useless after I turn it a very small amount. I went to Guitar Center today and played a couple more, and they were all the same way.

Also, I have noticed on Fenders wiring diagrams that supposedly both the thinline and the Custom have 250 pots and the same value cap.

My question: Since both of the humbuckers on the Thinline share the same volume and tone caps, would this put more of a load on them and make them less useful than the Custom which has individual pots?

I really love the Thinline, I just which my tone control was a use-able as on my Customs.

Thanks!
