Something interesting I didnt know...

I was looking on a website about Bruce Springsteen's equipment and I always knew his pickups were either Joe Barden or custom Petillo pickups. I found this little article from a website about all of bruce's equipment:

"Custom Wound Pickups
This pickups were built by Phil Petillo. Bruce uses them for nearly all his electric guitars (15.6k bridge, 8.5k neck)."

I dont know if its common but I didnt know 15.6k for a bridge i was surprised, mine are 11 but i never knew you could get 15 although they are custom, anybody know if you could buy stock 15k pickups im sure their common

The Dimarzio Pre B-1 comes in at 14.23k. I have one in one of my partscasters and love it.

I'm surprised there's enough room on the bobbin for the wire! 15K That must hum like a swarm of bees.

When Bill Lawrence talks, I listen. I really don't think there's any sound way to compare dissimilar pickups based upon this test reading.

These readings are good for:

1) sorting out which Strat pickup is which in an unmarked set;

2) telling if something has happened to a pup; is it broken. And if you own a pup and you're determined to change it, the reading can tell you how far you have to go.

That's about it, in my opinion.

As do I..

Comparing pickups and or picking one based on the DC resistance (a completely useless bit of information as pertains to the pickup according to Bill) in the anticipation of expecting specific results is a Crap shoot.

Just as a Ferrari is a hell of a car, it is about useless on a back woods dirt road where a Ford F-150 will “blow its doors off”.

Likewise, there are situations where specific pups excel and others where the same pup fails miserably.

Do yourself a favor, go peruse Bills site, you will return a much educated person in the world of pickups. Knowledge is a good thing.

That only seems like 1/2 of the picture. It seems the type of magnet used is also very important to the sound.

I don't know a whole lot about pickups, but there's more to 'em than impedance.

And I wholeheartedly concur with Kyle. I have a PRE-B1 in one of my Teles and it's a great sounding pickup. You wouldn't expect a pickup that hot to have much of that Tele twang and snap, but it does...

Does Bruce even use the bridge pickup?
