new SD pearly gates - is this faulty?

never having much experience with buckers i am a little puzzled by this.
the PG has 5 wires and i solder red to white and wind the green and bare together - checking the resistance to see if all is ok i find a reading of around 4k

mmm

so i unwound the green and bare and touch green and black with the probes and get a more reasonable 8.4 k or hereabouts - black to bare also gives around 4k

i have another set of pups from another maker who has the bare and green wrpped together and the resistance is right

what i am wondering is when i ground both green and bare from the PGates i will have output resitance of 4k correct? even if i ground them to different points? the SD schematic shows both wires soldered to the volume pot
would that not be the same as winding both together and then grounding?
