i have an washburn n2 and i love it and will not change guitar. my problem. i need twang in my guitar so since tele has it i figure this is the place to ask. is there a humbucker that i can fit into my n2 to get the twang. or maybe i can put a singe coil into it to get the twang. please give me feedback on what to do! thanks |

Well, I know you said you don't want to get another guitar but you might want to look at a Squier Tele or something. It might really be cheaper than modding this one. Others will chime in too but I think the twang is a combination of so many things that doing it with a FL trem and humbuckers might be a large and expensive task.

Welcome, n2 man.
In addition to being twang men mostly, we are also mostly multi-guitar nuts, even if most or all are telecasters. I agree with old cane; the least costly, most efficient way to get yourself some guaranteed twang is to find a used Squier Telecaster, or a Fender other other T style guitar.

Well, how about putting a Filtertron in there, they are probably the twangiest pickups around - TV Jones sells them in HB-size (expensive, though).
I have some old GFS Brookly pickups - HB-sized single-coils - that sound rather twangy; I think the Brooklyns aren't available any longer, but I've heard the GFS Dream 90 is actually a Strat-type singlecoil in HB-shape, so it might get you closer to twang. Or you could ask someone like Pete Biltoft from www.vintagevibeguitars.com to wind you a HB-sized singlecoil that will twang - he actually has HB-sized P90s, but with Alnico slug pole pieces instead of bar magnes and pole-screws, and those, maybe a bit underwound, should probably get you as close to a twangy sound as possible with a HB-routed guitar. |

Jimmy wired this up so he could get the twang from a tele and the tones from Dano's, LP's, Strats, etc. Check it out. It should give you the answer you are looking for. You will have to do some wiring. The second link is to the diagram of the wiring for the pups.
