New Douglas WF-150, would like to upgrade the pu's
Was thinking about some GFS pickups, the stock neck sounds muddy, but I really want to keep that vintage look with the lipstick style pickup. Any suggestions? Also, how hard is it for a total newb to change out a pickup? And what tools are needed?
Thanks in advance Here's a pic

soldering iron. solder sucker or at least some braid. some decent rosin core solder. wire strippers and side cutters. it is pretty simple. Track down where the current wires go. take a picture. note the locations on the picture. uninstall the pickup. install the new one. rock out.
if you don't know how to solder. take some time to learn. I'd recommend the Terry Downs video course.. he also includes a list of tools to get and where to get them.

Cool, thanks guys. I read good things about GFS p/u's but would rather get some insight from tele fans. I know it's not a real Fender tele, but for my first one, it's really nice and the tech who set it up was shocked at the quality v price.
Cannot recommend Rondo Music's guitar's enough. I have an Agile 3100, and now this Douglas, hopefully a TC-630 will be joining the corral. One more quick question, any chance that the tone/vol pots are causing the neck p/u to sound muddier than it should? |

+1 to the tonerider. You will not regret it. Cheap and superior. I prefer them to the more expensive, known brands like seymour duncan and dimarzio.
Nice looking guitar you got there. I would get an Agile 3000 (or something like that), but combined with shipping all the way to Singapore would be roughly the same as an Epiphone les paul. So it wouldn't be economical. Yea the pots do affect the tone. Maybe you can try a 500k tone pot. it will make your pickups sound brighter. |

Toneriders are one of my Two Favorite pickups! The Vintage plus are great pickups! Ralph is a TDPRI member and a Tonerider Dealer, I have purchased several sets from him. http://www.rhfactorguitars.com/ His service is top notch!!! I Paypal him and I have them in two to three days! I bought a strat set that I didn't care for and rather than ask for a refund I told him to send me a set of Vintage Plus Tele Pups, no problem at all with Ralph. I don't have anything to put them in right now, but I will find a home for them in one of my Tele's!
Less Than $100 for a set of, one of the best Tele pickups on the market. IMHO

I had one and hated the neck position, I just removed the cover from the neck pickup (no soldering or grounding, just a little bent metal tab) and the problem was solved!
