lace hot gold vs fender lace sensor

anyone here any experience with the lace hot gold pickups? It seems to get really good reviews on the net, but I was wondering how they differ from the older fender lace sensors (gold, silver, blue, red) pickups, I've tried all of those. Is the hot gold pretty much a 'hotter' version of the older gold model?

I have a set of hot golds in a partscaster strat. Essentially they are hotter versions of the old Lace sesnsor gold. However, they seem more than just an overwound gold, they somehow sound both fuller and more strat like thant the golds did. I actually like them a lot in that partscaster guitar. Quiet, and good "stratty" sounds without being a clone of any vintage pickup; but with some power as well. Decent quack in the combined positions.

So, if you are looking for an identifiable strat sound, but do not necessarily have to have the "1957" or the "1963" sounds, these may be for you. However, if you just have to have that absolutely vintage sound, then you need to look elsewhere.

overwinding any pickup will make it both hotter n output and fuller in sound.

Are there any sound clips with Hot Golds? I ask Lace while back they said they are planning on putting a Youtube clip soon.

Hot golds are slightly hotter and fuller sounding than standard golds, but not ovepoweringly so.
When I was reworking a Hohner Strat copy with a maple body I searched the various guitar forums for pickup advice. Mark Mitchell (smark on the fender forum and the in house Strat pickup guru) suggested that Hot Golds sounded good with any body / neck wood combination and posted sound clips.
Don Mare who worked for Lace at the time suggested a standard Gold in the middle position for extra "quack". So I reassembled the guitar with Hots in the bridge and neck and Gold in the middle.
OK, but bridge sounded a bit harsh, so put a Lace silver (hotter and less top end response). These pickups balanced well for my ears, in this guitar and are not set to be swapped out = very good (and I am fussy!).
So two spare Hots, one now in neck of 3 pickup Tele and again is staying in (mighty mite ceramic middle (really!) Kent Armstrong bridge). The last of the 3 I bought is earmarked for another project, again in the neck position of a partscaster 12 string.
So, in summary I like them in the neck positions of two guitars I own and play, but they work for other people elsewhere.
In case you think I have limited my pickup choice to Lace products, I have guitars with Seymour Duncan, Voodoo, Keystone and O.C. Duff pickups, they all have their place.

Hope this helps. PM me if further advice / experiences required.

Guess my description was not really great. Yes they are fuller. Yes they are hotter. But, somehow, to my ear they do not loose the high end that great strat pickups have that so often gets lost in overwinding. That was the basis of my "more strat like" comment vs. the regular Lace Sensor Golds.

Highs still sparkle, without harshness. More mid information like you would expect with a strat single coil. Hope that helps.

Here I was hoping for some sound clips myself.

Got a set in my EC strat...

and they sound a lot better than the stock golds--improved body and quack IMHO. I think I'll try a regular gold in the middle as suggested above.
