super ferrite pickups

i really like the unique sound these pickups have and yesterday i was luck to win this guitar for less than 160.00.

What model is that? I have 2 T-15s and an extra set of those Super Ferrites that will eventually go into a Tele build, once I get my P-90 jones satisfied.

i don't know what model or year this guitar could be. it has to be n the 80's or maybe late 70's?

bought this guitar from a power seller on ebay that bought this guitar at a garage sale in florida.

i don't have the guitar in my possession yet.

if anyone can help me out on the year and or model i would appreciate it.

I think it's a Peavey T-15, but I'm not sure if they put those pickups in other guitars. The bridge looks like the ones they had on T-15s. There's an extra knob there; I'm not sure what that would be. Maybe a master volume and the original volume and tone controls have been converted to tone controls for each pickup like a Strat? Another thing, the T-15 is a short-scale (23-1/2" scale IIRC) guitar. It's a bit cramped at first if you're used to Fenders, but you can also pull off reaches on those things you'd never consider on a Fender according to a couple of guys over on the Peavey board that are way better players than I am.

By the way, those Super Ferrites are single coils. They sound like a cross between a P-90 and a Tele pickup. Absolutely fantastic.

The body's definitely been refinished.

It's mid 70s to early 80s. If you can find the serial number Peavey can tell you what year it is for sure over on the Peavey Guitar Forum. You'll have to join, but everyone over there is a Peavey fan, and there is a lot of knowledge over there. Chip Todd, the T-series designer, is a member who posts regularly.

i forgot to mention it says super ferrite peavey usa on the bridge.

once i get the guitar i will hopefully find a serial number then join the peavey forum.

Great sounding pickups. Those guitars can be found fairly cheap. I've been on the hunt meself for a while.

I played a T-15 last year and the short neck
stopped me from buying...

The pickups had me thinking I found the Holy Grail...

I changed the neck and put a squire tele neck.



Intonation is dead on. All we had to do was to make the neck pocket of the body a little wider. And drill 4 new holes that hold the neck and body together.

This thing really is the bomb now!

I saw an older Patriot in GC here the other day. It has the same pickups, so I guess they aren't exclusive to the T-15. I'm going to have to go in there for some serious playing time. Mabye I can get in there tomorrow before all the Metalheads get there.

I think Patriots are 24-3/4" scale or maybe 25". They are longer than a T-15 but not quite 25-1/2" scale.

The Patriot has a 24.75" scale, yes. And the single-coil Super Ferrite pickups are great. To my ears, they sound like a cross between tele pickups and P-90's.

I have a later Patriot with the single humbucker. It's the same scale length, just no Super Ferrites. Which reminds me, I could trade that sucker in for a real Patriot....

Do any custom pickup guys make a super ferrite true to the peavey original? I wonder why peavey don't make em anymore.

I would love to get some more of them pickups without having to hunt them used ones on ebay.

I don't think anyone is making repros of any Peavey pickups. I would think if any were worthy of repro status it would be the T-60 "toaster" pickups. I'm sure there are enough Super Ferrites to go around for now, though.

I've got three laying around for a couple of different projects. I have a Reactor body someone at Peavey made out of Koa and that just might become a Super Ferrite Esquire if I can find a good neck for it. And if I don't have to sell it.

I originally got the Patriot to scavenge the pickups from it. The guitar is just so darned good, though, that I had to leave it stock.
