Need clean and bright Tele Neck pickup
Hey All,
I wanna try something different in my H1 tele. I like the pickups, but they are a bit to hot for me. I want to get a neck pick up that is a touch brighter, and clean sounding. Any suggestions? Also wanna keep the prices reasonable; I don't want to spend over $60. Thanks |

Stock American Standard, between 95 and 2000. It is the brightest Fender neck pup I have played, and brighter than most any others I have tried.

Also the height adjustment, any pickup, really. Recently I picked up up an '00-'01 '50s Classic for a friend. Even though the rhythm pickup was terrible, almost everything else was right with this guitar.
Got it home and brought the rhythm up 1/2 turn each side. Night and day. A nice, strong, fat pickup that could probably be dialed in further with more playing. Assuming your height screws are "hidden," try removing your pickguard and playing, for a week, while you make little adjustments. |

+1 on adjusting what you've got. It's cheap and easy. All it costs is time.
Assuming that doesn't get you where you want to go, the DiMarzio Twang King is one of the best neck pickups you can buy. You'd have to spend double the money to get a better one. Oops, just re-read your post. Raising the pickup will also increase output. Go for the Twang King!

I have recently gotten a set of the overwound Alnico 3 Highway One Upgrade ( Mid-2005 and newer) pickups in my H1 Strat dialed in, but I have had no such luck with the H1 Tele pickups, the "upgrade" ones. I do have a set of pre-upgrade ones I'm liking, however. I will keep trying on my remaining H1 upgrade Tele, but the one I have put Bill and Becky Lawrence Keystones on is truly really nice. We're talking $ 58 per set, and sets do tend to work better especially because the Fender and the Keystone are out of polarity towards one another, the Keystone being instead compatible polarity wise with the Seymour Duncans, I think. My order is here, most of the orders are now catching up fast. I would think the price will go up, as Cobalt has skyrocketed. Bill has a hoard of well bought Alnico slugs, but he can't keep prices down forever with the dollar falling like this.
