American Standard Telecaster..2006 .. Doesnt sound like a vintage Tele..but sounds GREAT to my ears..Im leaving the stock pups right where they are.
2005 Gibson Les Paul with burstbucker pro's..very nice buckers..leavin them where thay belong... Now ive got a 91 Epiphone Emperor thats just a little muddy..im thinking of replacing the pups with perhaps some antiquity's. 2006 HWY 1 J Bass...stock pups working fine for me.

I modded my MIM '99 Std with vintage type bridge, brass saddles, CTS pots, Switchcraft switch, and an Orangedrop cap. It absolutely changed the sound for the better; so much so that I left the original pups in.
She now sounds killer IMHO. |

All my Fender guitars and my LP Studio are stock, except for my beater Strat copy which has been retro fitted with a set of unused pickups from an American Series Stratocaster. Probably a waste of decent Fender pups, but if I ever sell 'em, someone gets a free guitar thrown in with the deal.

I just picked up a used Peavey Patriot (the 2-pickup model with the Super Ferrite single-coils), and I'm leaving it stock. It's too cool just as it is.
None of my other 6 electrics are stock.

Right now, four are stock, one's not. But one of the four is getting a change out next week.

My JV Strat is stock
My Les Paul was stock My G&L ASAT Classic is stock My Washburn HB35s was stock My cheapie 80's Squire Strat is stock I did change out the pups in a 50's classic tele and still sold it anyway because the swap still didn't get it where I wanted it. I like to keep them stock. For me, PUP swap is only a last resort on a guitar I otherwise love and then after I have exhausted other options to get it just right - guitar adjustments, amp settings. It just seems like a tail chasing exercise to me. Now if you don't mind spending the dough and trying a bunch of PUPS to find what you want - swapping's probably pretty cool - talk about options. Whatever the approach, getting the sound you want is what matters. That said, I am thinking about a PUP change on my JV for a fatter, bolder sound but I'm not quite there yet. Love the guitar but I think it can be much better. Fralin Blues Specials anyone?

I've kept the stock Mighty Mite AlNiCo pickups in my '03 Squier Standard Tele. The only parts I've replaced on that Tele to change the tone is the pots. I replaced the stock 500K pots with 250K pots.
I had a different set of pickups in my '05 Squier Standard Tele but I recently put the stock Mighty Mite AlNiCos back in. I put 250K pots in it and a vintage style bridge. My Classic Series MIM '69 Thinline still has its original AlNiCo pickups, but I added a StewMac copper plated steel baseplate to the bottom of the bridge pickup. And I replaced the stock 1M pots with 250k pots. |

Never changed any pickups on any of my Gibsons
What I will do though is each time I try a new set of pups out , i'll test them on a few different guitars time allowing , as they might sound better in one than another . I'll also put any decent pups I do swap into a so called lesser guitar . For example , my MIM Strat has the pups that I took from a USA , and the MIM pups will probably go in an Aria Strat that I gave my daughter . I figure i'm only gonna use so many guitars at any one time , so it can be cost effective to do it like that , rather than buy a new set for everything . About 6 or 7 of my guitars are totally stock and sound ok .

I've got a set of HB size single coil SFs that'll go in a Tele body one of these days. They are like a P-90 with unlimited sparkle and twang. Back on topic, I seldom leave a guitar stock, but my MIM Esquire Reissue is bone stock. I've got a pickup I was going to put in there, but I like it as is. It'll probably get a tortoiseshell pickguard eventually.

american standard tele pups are the worst ... they have too much gain and little or no high end i like dimarzio, duncan, or fender custom shop vintage type tele pups ...sure, not tons of nuclear fat/massive blazing output, but that's not what a tele is usually about that's it imho i like a basically articulete, clean twang from teles, made from '52-'84 |

2003 MIM Std stock bridge, GFS neck humbucker
2003 CIJ Antigua RI stock pickups 2003 Squier Affinity got the MIM stock neck from #1 1999 Squier Affinity came with a SD twin blade in the bridge I'm saving the "spring for awesome boutique pickups" treat for when I think I deserve it. On a slow day at work I just surf and listen to pickup sample sound files. Mmmm. Sound files.

They're the single-coil ones with the blade. They sound, to my ears, like a cross between a tele and a P-90. Pretty darned cool.
Edit: here's a pic of one just like mine: ![]()

G + Ls stay stock. Love them MFDs, especially the z-coils;
AV52 FSRs stay stock. CS No-Casters pickups are real nice, may be a switch or cap change, that's all; Squier 51 pickups stay stock. I've changed only one set, might change one more; Bajas stay stock. Too many other things to change before these pups; Maybe the bodies on a few will be changed; and. CS NOS Nocaster. But of course.

The only change I've made to my tele is a four way switch. come to think of it, my strat and Epi G400 are stock too although the strat did have a Duncan JB Jr in the bridge position for a while.
