Just installed GFS Repro 50s!

My funk tele ("Catfish") had the GFS Repro Hot 60s Bridge pickup. I found it to be too thick and ballsy for chimey funk chords. Today I popped in the 50s Repro and wow! Bright and crisp, no more growl. I measured it at 6.9k, I think.

I can't wait to try it with the full band.

Anyone have good experiences with this pickup?

(BTW, the Hot 60s gets to live in a mutant tele custom I'm building from poplar, where it can rage rage rage against the dying of the sustain)

I was curious about how the '50s repro sounded.

I really like my Hot '60s for the reasons you described that it wouldn't work for your funk chording.

Now 'cause of you, I might try the '50s model too :)

I have had a couple of the GFS 50's and a couple of the 60's. Both sound really good, but I like the 50's better in that it has a bit more twang and a bit less growl, and it doesn't overpower the neck pickup, which the GFS 60's will do if your neck pickup is not real strong. The bottom on the 50's is good, but it is not as boomy or as pronounced as on the GFS 60's. To me the GFS 50's does the Don Rich, 60's Bakersfield sound better than the GFS 60's, but the GFS 60's excels at raunchier tones like early ZZ Top.
