3 Pup Tele Wiring
Hi guys,
I yesterday finished my second Tele which comes with 2 Tele Pups from Harmonic Design and 1 additional pup in the middle position from Semour Duncan (Strat Antiquity II). I used a 5-way-switch and the traditional Nashville Tele wiring. Result: the 3 main pup positions sound ok; however the in-between-positions 2 and 4 do sound absolutely crap: the sound is very thin and lacks 50% of output and sound. I guess that the problem is related to the parallel or series wiring issue, however I never faced this problem with my first Tele which is using the same configuration. Somebody also told me that thiscould be related to the switch ... Anyway, I would much appreciate your advice. Keep on rockin' !

Just a guess but sounds like maybe that middle pickup is out of phase with the other two. I don't have a great deal of knowledge on this subject but I'm thinkin maybe with the middle strat pickup you can switch the two wires. Worth a try, and you may very well get some better advice than mine from someone who knows what their talking about.

I'm with Bradderick. It should be a phase problem.
I find that traditionnal parallel wiring is a way more useful way of connecting two single coils than in series, where you just gain more power to push an overdriven amp, but loose the special clarity of parallel which is great for clean sound or rhythm. About the switch, it works or it doesn't, never 50 % ! |

With the traditional Nashville scheme, all the pup combos are parallel.
Your middle pup is out of phase. Braderrick has it right: just swap the hot and ground leads on the mid pup, and you'll be good to go.
