Mini Humbucker vs. Filtertron

I occasionally see people using 'mini humbucker' to describe a Filertron. I assumed they were 2 different sounding styles of pickups though? Are their any similarities tone wise, or is it a case of people mixing up their terms?

Mini-Humbuckers are often described as having a Single-coil like tone to them, but with a bit more bite. FilterTrons are a whole different story. I shold point out that I love FilterTrons. FT will have more bottom end than a M-H/B. I can see the comparison, but i think the FT is a more dynamic pickup.

I was under the impression that FTs were a little more midrangey?

Filtertrons are relative low ouput and have a lot of clarity and sound very even across all strings. I'm not sure how they do it, but I can get clean Tele sort of tones out of them as well as slightly overdriven P90 sort of tones. In the right guitar and with the right amp, they are very versitile. Meanwhile, the mini-HBs I've come across are much higher gain and can sound sort of crispy in comparison. They're good rock'n'roll PUs, but I've always had trouble taming them.

What minis were you using? The Duncan customs and some recent Gibsons are hot, but a properly traditional mini-humbucker is fairly low output, with a somewhat recessed midrange.
