"Micawber" Gibson neck Humbucker choice

Hey guys...I'm calling on your knowledge: Out of the current range of Gibson Humbucker pups which do you think would be the closest match to KR's?

His is a Gibson PAF, isn't it? I I were putting one together and insisting on a Gibson pickup, I'd probably use a '57 Classic, Gibson's reissue of that pickup.

Another choice would be Gibson's Burstbucker 1, which is a medium output pickup. I'd pick that one because I wouldn't want it to outbalance the stock bridge pickup....

I've toyed with the idea of a Tele configured like this....how do you like your CIJ Micawber? You do the five string open G thing with it?

Here's a little info on them, if you haven't seen it: http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Lifestyl...0Making%20His/

If you want to be real authentic you could try the Seymour Duncan Seth Lover. Its designed by the same bloke who did the original Gibson PAFs (and the Fender wide-range humbuckers, fun fact.).

If you're not too picky about it actually being a Gibson-branded humbucker, you can really go with anything in the PAF range. Incidentally, they all sound different because they were all modeled after different PAFs. You see... PAFs varied A LOT. They used AlNiCo 2, 3, 4, and 5 magnets interchangably. Some were overwound, some underwound. Some (typically the duller-sounding ones) were wound with each coil being a close match. Others (typically the livelier sounding ones) had coils that weren't closely matched.

For my current Tele project, I had Bryan at bg-pups.com wind me an underwound BG Bucker. The coils aren't perfectly matched and it has an AlNiCo 5 magnet, so tonally it has a bit of Stratiness to it somehow. That's the only way I can describe it after installing it the other night and testing it out.

not a thing wrong with them Seymour Duncan Seth Lover H/Bs!!

I recently tried a friend's SG that has a pair of 'em and it was heavenly.

seriously inspirational.. now I want a dual-humbucker guitar with 'em.

Howdy,

All the replies are good. I'm a huge 'Stones fan and like the SD '59s in my ES-335. Good luck!

PS: I think a Seth Lover would probably be a slightly better choice on an Ash Tele than a brighter '59. My 2 cents.

I use an SD Antiquity II minihumbucker and couldn't get closer to the sound on Beast of Burden in the number two position on a three position switch. Incidentally, the bridge pup is a Don Mare Graf Airship Studio.

Hi BarnesTO,

I've had it for about two months (superb quality) now and I am absolutely loving it...yes you guessed correctly I purchased it specifically for Open G playing and can't put it down

If you are still mulling it over I don't think you would be dissapointed if you took the plunge....in fact you would very probably fall in love
