piezo-electric saddle pickups
Anyone have first hand experience with any of these piezo pickups built into the string saddles (as well as their acoustic/electric blend circuits) on a tele?

Piezos...
Yes, I've got them as stock fitments, on a Nashville Power Tele, as part of the Fender/Fishman Powerbridge.
I'd say they have a good sound - crisp and pretty full. Not exactly like an acoustic guitar of course, but they do their job well enough, and its a nice effect, to add to your standard guitar/amp sound. The guitar splits the signals, so the piezo is going to the P.A. directly from the guitar, but I do intend to send it through a suitable FX unit in the future, to add a slight delay perhaps, if I can decide on a unit that will work nicely with a piezo signal. The down side of all this is that, like some other users of the Nashville Power Tele, I'm beginning to have a problem with one of the strings sending a weaker signal, and from what I've read, it looks like I'll need to replace a saddle and do some wiring. I've been putting this off, but the problem isn't likely to solve itself. That apart, I like guitar, and I like the extra dimension that the piezos provide. This isn't my main Tele, but one I bought for the very purpose of adding that little extra sparkle. Some nights I use it, some I don't. |
