I thought I had the good one (left below) till I saw the one on the right. Look how straight that grain is.

Mine is # 82 of 1000, since I am a real computer tard I don't know how to post pics but it has real nice even mix of wide grain. It seems like it was made to be played through my Vibro_King.

I have # 572, # 714, #739 and # 795.
And the one I have in Florida is also in the # 7xx's and ironically was bought here in New Orleans. Jack, I like yers better. The other is too uniform, I like some character.

I almost bought one here in Dayton, OH. It was at our GC for ever. I had toyed with the idea of picking it up, but it had a LOT of shop wear. looked like it had been dropped by half a dozen high school kids. but I was in the shop when they marked it down to clearance price - $429! I went home to get some cash and when I came back it was gone....

I only came across two Fender teles all year last year that I would actually buy (if i was demented enough to buy another tele), and this Anniversary model with the inlay was one of them. Nicest guitar I found in 2007. |

I know it is possible to have a center joined ash body that looks bad, but tell you what, the ones I've seen are collectively pretty nice, and more important, light and resonant as well.
I could say I'm a sucker for any ash body, but those MIM FSR Standards that Guitar Center had been selling, many are either: 1) Ugly, 2) Boat Anchors, or 3) Sonically dull. Often two of the three, sometimes all 3. But yeah, once I got the GC discount price game figured out, I bought all 5 I put my eyes on. I think 15 days elapsed, first buy to the last buy. A lot of these 60th Anniversary 'Inlays' do have what I call 'butt crack' ( the bridge doesn't cover the whole bridge rout); no way a Fender Custom Shop guitar would (or should) have that, although it might be authentic that way. They might on average be just a little nicer than the average 2006 AV52, build quality wise, the wood selection just a bit better, perhaps.

to me, these tele's are probably like any other tele, guitar, violin, whatever; you get good ones and you get bad ones. not ever 59 les paul was magic off the line, nor was every 52 tele, 57 strat, 1709 stradivarius, what have you.
just play whatchya like i guess, just so happened for me, i dug this tele the most out of about 20 of them. mexican, usa, tried a bunch of them out. but if you're just collecting, well... cant help you out there |

Double B's Butt Crack observation will get me back on my Soapbox again !
Why...oh why (save for perhaps authentic reissues) can't Fender change the Tooling (after 60 yrs.) to perhaps widen the Ashtray Bridge Shell, by an 1/8"...and while they're at it...since almost no one uses the cover...eliminate the damn shoddy lookin wrinkles on the back corners !....The Lite Ash does, and many aftermarket ones also.....OK...said my peace.......

What's sad is a lot of folks believe the false advertising and end up paying more for the guitar because of it. |

I played one, but I don't think that counts!
Possibly one of the nicest teles I've held in my hands. Very light too. It was actually so nice that it got me a bit nervous, didn't feel like a working man's guitar to me. Big thick neck, I surprised how the nitro felt on it. The case was really, really impressive! |

I'm liking these the more I read about them. I've never seen one, is the finish on the neck/fetboard nitro also, or is it the same super thick poly I've seen on some of the 52 RI?
I probably ruin the collectable value of one though, because I'd gig it..... A lot...... |

I think if everybody that has one locks it away, it won't increase in value much; it is the items that are put to their fullest, come to be loved, and get mostly used up leaving a small percentage still intact, these are the items that tend to appreciate big time. I wouldn't be surprised at all if people get tired of the silver case, get tired of having a guitar they're afraid of dinging, and start selling. Maybe those who buy won't be so conscious if they just pay a bit less. Otherwise if they go from collector to collector, and 80+ percent survive in like new condition, the value of an honestly played and gigged, honestly worn example might actually come to be worth more, not less than the virgin ones. Everybody loves a guitar with a story, right? It may feel like playing roughhouse football in your Sunday clothes, but I don't mind, not at all.

these guitars aren't expensive collector guitars , though they are rightly collectible and somewhat expensive.
there's a quote eh?...thank you , thank you very much mine already has a nice ding and will no doubt receive many more...it's called MOJO...some call it Relic and some don't give two prairie oysters what you call it.If you play you know your gonna bang it up a bit ... |
