Custom Tele owners what are you running through?
I'm currently using a BF Deluxe with a Celestion G12H at about 5 or 6 where the nice breakup lives. For louder venues I use the Cali 12 because it really drives well above 7 with a sweet spot at 8 and a half.

I have two original ones; a sunburst (Feb ´73) with maple board and a natural (Mar ´73) with rosewood board. They're both great, but the natural is my favourite, real sweet and boy does it moan and cry when you lean on it...! I usually use a Super Reverb (Blackface from '67) or an early MusicMan OneThirty HD212 (´73 or ´74 I think) to fire them up...
PS: The Customs are no 3 and 4 from the right in the second row (just in front of the gold LP DeLuxe twins) in my "Meet the family" photo below...

71 custom RI HB tone question
Hi all,
I just joined the club this weekend I read in reviews about the HB being muddy, but found that lowering the pup a couple of turns cleaned up the sound quite a bit, while slightly lowering the output. I'm interested in the 250k -> 500k tone pot mod and would like to know from anyone who's done it: Is it a relatively easy DIY (I can use a soldering iron, but I'm not an electronics wizz)? Is it better to do both vol and tone pots? Does the mod make any difference when the pots are at '10' - or only when dialled back a bit? any advice/experience very welcome! thanks Phil |

I love my Customs!
CIJ RI (Doris) ![]() This one has had about 15 minutes of play and sits in the case under the bed (12 months now!) It's brand new and I can't bring myself to wear her in!

I couldn't actually find a tortoise pickguard, so I bought a blank from Warmoth and had it hand made by my local guitar tech. I think it was worth it!

I thought I was already a part of this club? Must have been another thread.
Great question! Right now I run mine through a Vox Pathfinder 15R (w/10" speaker) and a 1976 Fender Vibro Champ (also with a 10" speaker). Both amps sound great and I hope to be running it through a Vox Night Train soon. |
