Fender Modern Player Owners Club

Hi guys!

Reports are that these are selling really fast, the two Telecasters in particular - and since I got one myself I am curious to see how many of you are out there
I'm loving my guitar and this is my way of giving her something back, for the great times I'm spending with my Tele!

My pictures aren't great (NOW I really need a decent camera) and so I recorded a little clip for you to listen to my babe.

I recorded it through a Roland Cube 30 with just some amp reverb. The tone knob was at 50% and the volume knob was maybe 90%. I'm using the neck/mid pickup config. Strings are .011s flatwounds. Hope you like it and ...

let's hear for some mode Modern Player owners!

still alone in here but prouder, day after day, of my modern player Tele I'm starting to know the tones I can get out of it and, surprisingly, there's a somewhat jazzy side to it that my other jazz axes don't have!
But that's also why I wanted a Tele.

I've got a Marauder. I Love it.

The Modern Player guitars I know by some aren't even regarded as true Fenders, but I think that its some of their best work for the price and quality.

The tonal options and versatility of the Marauder have gone almost unmatched as far as I've seen.

Curious about the others, though. I hope to see more posts here soon!

The Marauder looks and sounds amazing - judging from the youtube reviews. It gives me some GAS :)

My Tele is sweet in every respect. Visually, finish and sound wise. Can't put her down..!
(I'll have to add some decent pictures quickly).

I feel that too. because they seem to be made on the same factory of the CV Squiers, they're less Fender that the Squiers, go figure!

Well I've had the first problem with my Marauder today. The 3 coils active position (second to bridge) cuts out unless you push it a little down (the way it isn't supposed to go) I'm thinking either a bad switch(likely, since its probably a MIC piece of junk) or just a poorly soldered connection.

I'll have to look under the hood later! (Though if it is unfixable it doesn't really bother me, because the triplebucker I use least) what does bother me though is in order to get to the humbucker setting, I have to go OVER the triplebucker setting, and it crackles whilst doing so.

bummer...!
that's really nagging on a new guitar.

well, since you're going to look under the hood, it would be great to see some photos of it - if you can!

good luck, sir!

I'll have them on later!

It's a shame this group hasn't many posts, it would be nice to hear how the other modern players are turning out.

Here they are! (Please excuse poor quality)

From the top (had to put a white pillow on top of the usual black fleece blanket, otherwise the body would be invisible)

Pickguard off (have to take neck off to get it off, because it sits a little under the neck and the p'ups are too big to work around)

Crappy MIC switch. Everything looked fine, but because I'm the careful type, I re-soldered a few connections just to be safe

And that's the Marauder! The wiring looked fun. The jazzmaster pickup pocket is HUGE, I mean you could fit anything you wanted in there. The triplebucker pocket is just humbucker sized.

That Marauder is way too cool!! Man, I need to get one of those someday!

So, did your soldering solved the problem?
And how did you find the finishing, the woodwork under the pickguard?

From your post I'm someday you may mod it with a better set of electronics. Mine is dong good so far but one never knows, so thanks for posting.

As for the pictures' quality, its' way better to have those pictures than no pictures at all ;)

Cheers!
Joao

The finishing was good, they did a fender job of that (not extremely thick like squiers) the finish is VERY thin, thinner than a MIA std. Fender. The wood(koto) is interesting, it has really no scent to it, probably won't 'bounce' like alder or maple, and dents fairly easy. Not a big problem though, I'm careful!

The re-soldering did solve the problem! There must have been a bad connection somewhere.

As for the electronics, I cleaned them thoroughly so they work smoothly for now, but I will probably upgrade them in the next year.

And here are some much better photos of my axe
This guitar is growing on me every day!

the ding in the trussrod access hole was mine - lesson learned!

it's very hard to capture the grain of the pine wood in photo, this is the best I could do.

Amazing guitars, everyone! I really think Fender did a good thing with these guitars, making genuine Fenders accessible to younger people. My friend's son just got a MP jag, boy does he love it, and I must say, those Fender P90s sounded very nice!
