Hagstrom Owners Club
How many Hagstrom owners do we have out there? I searched the forums to see if there were already a club for these beautiful machines, but I found none!
Here, we can post pictures of our Hagstrom's, new and vintage models, so that we can all enjoy and discuss each others guitars. I'll start... here's my Hagstrom Super Swede. ![]() ![]()

Greetings Hallski,
I have a 1966 Hagstrom "Corvette" which I purchased brand new. At that time the Hagstrom had a faster neck then the Fender Strat. Incidently they were the same price, so I took the Hagstrom. It's a beautifull red with a rosewood fretboard, and still plays nice, and was my go to axe for about twenty years. I have since gone on to Fender Strats., and recently purchased my first Tele. which I have totally fallen in love with. I am fairly new to this forum, and also basicly computer illiterate, so don't know how to post photos yet. If you could let me know how to put some photos of my Hagstrom up like you have done I would be more then happy to post them?? Kindest regards, Eddy |

Greetings to you as well, Eddy. Thanks for posting...
I had no knowledge of Hagstrom prior to picking this us up. I bought it in March of last year, and I also purchased it brand new, so it is from after they reopened (I think they shutdown originally in the 1980's?). While they now build in China, the quality of this instrument is amazing, and it plays so great that you would like it would be at least double what I paid for it! I wanted to a Les Paul, but not the price, so you could say I compromised, but I came out the winner! As far as the pictures go, I simply set up an account at PhotoBucket, http://photobucket.com/, and you can upload your photos from your computer. Once you have done that, you can copy and paste the link into the message space, and the photo will show up like it did for my pictures. I look forward to seeing your Hagstrom! |

I bought a 1965 Hagstrom 3, electric, that looked somewhat like a Strat. It was real red, it had 3 pickups, and it played really fast, it had a good tremolo. and it sounded fabulous through my 1963 Ampeg Reverborocket.. I bought the Hagstrom III in 1965, new... The Ampeg I bought used the same year. I used them in my band and it worked great for all the hits coming out the... The Beatles, and blues, and British of 1965-1966.. I had to let them both go before 1967. I sure wish I had kept them both.

My step father had a Hagstromback in the 70's...always loved it...he sold it or traded it for next to nothing...if we only had of known then what we know now...I purchased this one a few years back...it was beautiful and great value... I traded it for my american Deluxe Tele...I may pick one up again.

Thanks for posting Rod! It sounds like you've played both an original Hagstrom and one from the modern run, so I have to ask how the two compared in terms of quality? I feel that in its price range, my Super Swede outperforms most of its competition, and even though no longer made in Sweden, it still possess the quality of a guitar double its price? Would you agree? Thanks!

Well Hallski, I actually don't own a Hagstrom any more. That was the only one I owned. I felt like this thread needed some input, so I posted about the one I had. I guess I am not a member of this club because I don't actually own one. But, if they are making them like they used to, that's great. When I was playing mine, I saw a good number of the Hagstrom IIs, with two pickups, and a couple Hagstrom basses of the same style. They were a step down, at least in the minds of bands back then, from a Fender... I still have the original hang tag from 1965.

My brother & I nearly cornered the local market for Hagström guitars during the late '70s-early '80s. Sadly, most of them were sold, but I still have the parts for one of the HIINs. The decapitated Swede is at the repairman's shop.
Here are a few pics: ![]() L-R a couple of HIINs, the black one extensively modified, De Luxe III, Viking with Hagström's Bigsby style vibrato, '62 Jazzmaster, mid '60s Magnatone Typhoon, '70s Epiphone FT-150, badly modified Aria Pro II CSB-300 Bass and some guy holding a '65 Teisco TRG-2L. ![]() L-R some guy holding a Silvertone Mosrite copy, Frankencaster, Teisco TRG-2L, Hagström Swede and Magnatone Typhoon ![]() what happens to a Hagström Swede if you let your kids borrow it.

I had a white Swede in the eighties, but had to sell it to pay rent or food or something.. I have always regretted it, so I Bought a new white Swede a couple of years ago, and it was like getting my old one back! I'm really impressed by the quality. I also have a Hagstrøm bass from 1978, it has a real skinny neck and my bass player loves borrowing it.
I also have an early eighties strat, an Apollo (mr John Kingma) Baritone, and I've built some guitars over the years. I've kept four of the teles for myself. The Swede is very versatile both live and in the studio, and man, it's got a fast neck!

Very nice Bobb & Rocker..I am enjoying the Hagstrom web site...they have a good selection of models...not too many like some of the other companies..something for everyone in my opinion.
