I discovered where all the old pine in the Netherlands is.
I can recover a lot of it, only it did not go into construction as it does in the U.S.

Arlo, you take care now when in Amsterdam, don't get AMSTERDAMNED...
And don't walk out of the Hardrock sh*tfaced into the canal either! LOL

There can be only one true President of this club, albeit in a posthumane form...

Ol Army Green started it for me......

Props to Rob D who posted a nice "How to" on Minwax stain.....Search "Minwax stain" I followed his steps and was very happy with it.

My next builds I used stains and a Nitro finish.......got a good response here and a few other places and friends and others on the net if I would help them out......

Now, like the others that are here, I'm ate up with it......See a old barn or house and I'm thinking what kind of planks could I make.

Yep- lots of Thanks you's go out to Arlo,Jason "Jaydawg" H-man, Rob D for the cool "How to's " ......... Creston Electrics has been a inspiration........CLF as the Sen -Se.....No rules.....No polls to decide what "I" should build.....Never take myself to seriously......all about "playability" and fun guitars.......Leo was the seed...with respect to Paul Bigsby and others.

Speaking of twang...

Made a quick recording with an old jazz-amp i'm selling.
The quality of the camera's microphone is poor, but it get's the job done.
Some simpel playing and some twang...

Hey, I know it's an old thread, but I'm doing a similar project and was just wondering it you treated the bare pine body with anything before the stain?

That's a beautiful guitar ... Hope mine comes out half as good.

No, typically Pine does not need grainfilling, but it won't hurt if you do.
There can be knots though, i used Rustins clear woodstopping on my pine body.
I also used Rustins Yellow Pine Dye and Rustins shellac sealer as finish.
Dye the body with the non grainraising dye (whatever colour you prefer and they can be mixedfrom rustins on a cloth, wait till dry.
Apply the shellac with a roller, wait till dry and sand back with 320 grit glasspaper.
Apply more coats until satisfaction, sand back with320 and last Polish with a Beeswax with lye

That's how the butterscotchy finish on my guitar came about.

good luck

Ok I'm in with this just found today (hopefully this an acceptable entry at this early stage). Torrey pine from San Diego like Torrey Pines golf course. Quote from Wikipedia "The Torrey pine is the rarest pine in the United States. The wild population is restricted to about 4000 trees growing in a narrow strip along the California coast in San Diego. It is currently being tested as a plantation tree for forestry use in Australia, New Zealand and Kenya." There's enough for two ea. 2pc body's. Following Tdowns Volume Calculation http://www.tdpri.com/forum/tele-home...nk-weight.html the body's will weigh about 5.68 lbs, seam heavy whats an average Pinecaster body weigh?

Here's mine:

Body: 2 piece I bought off of ebay.

Neck: 2 piece I bought off of ebay and cut the headstock shape out, also put a V on the back.

Tuners: cheap ones from GFS

P/G: cheap one from GFS

Pickups: GFS Alnico Fatbody neck and bridge - LOVE EM! The bridge is great for rock n' roll and the neck sounds more like a bluesy strat neck.

Bridge: made it myself, top loader milled out of a solid chunk of brass - adds a ton of sustain because of the mass. It's bolted to the body with threaded inserts rather than screwed into the wood, as is the neck.

Knobs: Made those as well - took a brass punch and cut it up and drilled it. I "rolled" it through the bandsaw rather than pushing it through so they have a clamshell effect on them.

This is my #1 despite the neck being too thin. Next purchase is a fatback or something like that. Resonates beautifully and is even loud unplugged! When this one gets too beat up, I'll just slap the components on another pine body.

I'm not sure, but mine's actually kind of heavy - it's comparable to an ash body that I have. I'm guessing heavy side of 6 pounds or maybe even 7.

Here's my Pinecaster.

Glendale 1.5" body, Allparts fat neck, Glendale bridge and saddles and knobs and jack-cup and neck-plate. Don Mare pups.

It's a one piece body, and the coloured stripe down the middle is "heartwood!"

Welcome to the club Marc!

there's no average i guess, my Yellow piney is heavier then the featherweight Swamp Ash i have.
The body is an exact 4lb 7oz (2.1 Kilo's or thereabouts)
The swampash bodyblank is 4lb 8oz and needs trimming to size still...

so...

But since i have the pine one, the "other" five tele's are sitting jobless, gathering dust...

I'd say most of the one piece bodies I've made the last few years have weighed in the low 4 lbs. Not too many in the 3 lb range. I'd guess that is probably because the trees are large and grew more slowly.
