My first G&L

Hi guys

Just joined the G&L 'club' :)

Always fancied an ASAT, and an 'unmissable' guitar came up on eBay, an ash bodied, maple boarded 1989 guitar in near mint condition in original case with manual, only one small lacquer ding and near zero fret wear to show for 20 years of life :)

Set her up and she plays amazingly with a slinky action, cuts through beautifully and the chords just kind of fall under my fingers :)

The MFD pickups are an interesting sound, very clear and articulate, she makes a nice pairing with my natural ash, lace sensor equipped Buddy Guy Strat.

Can't understand why the string winding posts taper the wrong way though - that's a weird one !

Pics of my new best friend follow ... :)

Still watching this Buffalo Brothers page.

Based on what I can see, 2 ASATs have been sold and one JB-2 bass (previous stock, I think).

This bulk buy of guitars has cause one or more things, perhaps.

A number of buyers are selecting guitars and basses that never made it to the page;

Other buyers and sellers elsewhere have been forced into action by the availability of a nice sized inventory of basically new guitars at just a bit more money.

I could have 20 G + L guitars at this point, but before that happened I discovered what fun it is to assemble a "Fender" specifications guitar. I can't make a "G + L" guitar.

Tim from Buffalo Brothers had about two dozen of those G&Ls at the Arlington guitar show last Saturday, and two of them that I had my eyes on were sold before I had the gumption to pull the trigger on them. Dang! Anyway, every one I saw was in mint condition with no scratches or dings of any kind. In addition, the prices typically ranged from about $750 to $1000 for Legacys, ASAT Classics, Classic S, and so on. I'm sure there are still some great deals to be had.

Boris, I just checked the links you posted earlier. I believe this is one of the guitars I let slip away from me last Saturday. If not, it was one that was nearly identical.

http://www.buffalobrosguitars.com/im...ats/index.html

I was at the BB booth waiting patiently for a guy to put it back on the guitar stand, but he bought it right then and there. Oh well.

Those "S" model ASATs seem to be a favorite. Three have sold off the BB site so far; none left showing. That one, an Emerald Blue (teal) one, and a Vintage Yellow (slightly yellow Natural finish) one also with pearloid pickguard.

They finally sold one of the 4 ASAT Classics with the Butterscotch finish and the gun oil tint neck. Those look real tempting, also.

I just picked up a Bluesboy last night - Black w/ tortoise shell pickguard.
It's the 3rd G&L I have owned and it's just a magical piece. The other two went in trades but I'm not gonna make that mistake again!

2009 G&L Legacy HB Tribute Series

I thought i better post my latest G&L. I have never been much for black guitars in the past, I tended to like the translucent type finishes but i really do like the look of these with the black pearloid pickguard.
This model with the black finish is a Basswood body and the top tone pot is a push-pull to split the humbucker and the bottom tone is the G&L PTB pot. The single coil pickups are Alnico V and the humbucker is an Alnico as well.

This guitar has a very pleasing and distinct voice.

I am still always amazed too at the quality and playability of the Tribute Series instruments. Even the Rosewood Fret boards they use on these guitars are impressive for the money.

Keep up the good work G&L

Added my first G&L to my collection today, a 2007 USA ASAT Classic in Vintage White. Since it's white and I acquired it on Friday the 13th, I've named it Casper, after Casper the Friendly Ghost.

Killer thick neck, nice toneful pickups. I'm gonna log off and go play some Tele-Casper...

My latest G&L ...

1997 Legacy Special in blueburst with ash body, Sperzel locking tuners and three bolt neck.

The neck is not as slim as my 90s' ASAT III or Special, but not as chunky as some of the newer G&L models.
