Question about the super knotty pine bodies. Do those dark knots "flake" out of the finish? I know I've messed with some really old floor where you could dig out the knot. I'm wondering if that will fall out over time or if there are any issues.

New Kirn Custom for me!
I picked up my Jake5 custom from Ron this week. She is a beauty and realizes one of my visions for the ultimate blues rock/hard rock guitars --- in homage to Jake E. Lee (essential hardware and electronics) with a nod towards John 5 in promoting the Tele shape for hard rock/shred. I'm no shredder, but I really got to dial her in this evening with my gear and I'm blown away.
Ron is a master builder. Believe every word you hear on how nice a guy he is and how passionate he is in getting the guitar as close to perfection as you can get. Last night, when I got her home, I did not even plug in. I just sat in silence and played unplugged for as long as I could go. The ringing sustain is just out of this world --- obliterating any notion remaining in my mind that bolt-on necks where somehow inferior to set necks. If I ever want another strat-type or tele-type guitar, I know where I'm going --- to Ron Kirn. Enough from me. Peace everyone. Pics below and I guess I'll try to take some more if anyone is interested. Mike

reverse angle of single coils on Jake5
Hello. Thanks for the reply. This guitar kills and I cannot wait to play this evening.
The reverse angle to the single coils affords a perceptible (to me at least) added bite/cut to the bass strings while retaining the warmth and clarity of the treble strings in those traditional strat neck and middle positions. These are Dimarzio SDS-1s in those two positions and the effect is almost a hybrid between a traditional overwound strat pickup and hot p90. The middle position almost sounds like a normal strat neck pickup and the neck position sounds like a hot p90 to me. Again, might not be anyone else's cup of tea, but that's just fine as I love the tones. And yes, ladies and gentlemen, that is a 35th anniversary Duncan JB in the bridge position (in case anyone wondered). The only thing I just cannot get out of her is the Government Mule neck position tones --- but that's what my R0 is for and Warren owns that part of the country! Peace all. Mike

In tha past I did not like translucent white, but I have to say after seeing a few of Rons that finish really has grown on me. Sharp looking guitar.
and the jade green with the binding... dayum... that is sharp. |
