Sorry, no plans for my builds - I kinda made everything up along the way... ;)
I don't even have a proper workshop, both were built on my kitchen table.

The wood I used is khaya ("African mahogany"), I actually used bass neck blanks. The bridges and nuts are made from angled aluminium stock. The 6-string uses a Seymour Duncan Vintage P90, the neck pickup on the 8-string is a Vintage Vibe Guitars Stringmaster-type, the bridge pickup is a Lollar Chicago steel.

Here is my Supro. I sound like a cat in a trash can when I try to play the thing but man is it fun trying!

Nice Supro! Mine has the same type of pickup underneath the cream-colored plastic cover - those are real screamers, better suited for blues/rock playing rather than Western Swing or Hawaiian.

What tunings are all of you guys using?

I use C6 exclusively (CEGACE on 6-stign, ACEGACEG on 8-string) - I find that one much more versatile than eg. Open G or Open E, because you have full major and minor chords with straight bar, and those nice 6ths in there are also useful if you play any kind of country-derived musiclike I do...

Thanks Roman! I got a great deal on it because it was missing the pickup magnets and top plate. I got some magnets from Lollar and made the top plate and away I went.

As for tunings I'm still trying different ones trying to figure out what fits me best. I've been playing with open E and G as well as C6 and some variations on E.

We could even make a "Supro string-through pickup steel guitar owner's club"...

I got some NiBro uber-magnets from Rick Aiello when he was still making them. I think you might have to worry about them pulling metal out of your teeth if you get too close. Anyway, the notes (especially harmonics) sustain forever..............

Here's an ancient Regal squareneck student model I've had for years

A toilet seat lapsteel I built years ago..

A space-inspired, long scale I designed and built years ago...

There are more floating around here, I'll have to dig 'em out to get some pics.. I also love my Sierra Artist PSG, it's a 10 string, 3 ped 4 knees. Awesome PSG. I'll try to get some pics later today.

1936 Rickenbacker Electro Spanish.

This is probably the rarest thing I own. It's considered to be the first production electric guitar. I know, it looks like a lap steel, and I play it as one, but it has a round neck and frets. The body is made of solid bakelite - good luck getting a fret job. I'ver loaned this out for use as a lap steel to some bigwigs passing through town, but I never let anyone, including me, play it as a guitar anymore. the Roy Clark Big Note guitar method decals were on it when I bought it - I don't want to risk taking them off and damaging the fingerboard. Here's a nice history of this unusual instrument: http://www.gruhn.com/articles/rickelectro.html

I posted this in "finely Finished", so in case anyone missed it..
I finished my Dynalap Kit. Sounds good and plays good.
I pretty happy with how well it turned out!

OK, I'll play. My only one - a late 1940s or early 1950s Oahu Tonemaster. Double bound solid mahogany body and bound board. The rope binding on this thing sure is purty. Best part about this lap steel though is the Valco strings-through pickup. This thing is amazing - essentially a high end version of a classic Supro pup. Guys like Ry Cooder and David Lindley have taken them out and slapped them in Strats for slide. That's an old Maggie suitcase amp in the background.

hi everybody, i'm new, just registered. i am musician from st.petersburg, russia. i'm doing experimental guitar music. for the last several years i've used different guitars and came to understanding that lap steel fits my needs more than any other. i used to play small (junior like) guitars puting them on the table (like Keith Rowe does). now i'm looking for lap steel (8-10 strings) or double-neck console, non pedal. i'd appreciate if anyone could gimme a good advice. thanks in advance
