I THINK that Yamaha has some almost "custom shop" level SGV reissues available now, but only in Japan and at a pretty high price.

I'm with you--I much prefer chunky necks. This one isn't overly chunky, but it sure isn't thin. Feels nice and solid. Very comfortable. It's thicker than most Strat necks I've played.
Thanks for the info on the neck.
Strange, yamaha still lists it as available on their site, but I have never been able to locate nor a brick&mortar shop nor internet dealer who has them.

I have one too. I ditched the selects and installed a single EMG85 in the bridge, couldn't be happier. Is that a Tech21 amp hiding behind the AES?
We have lots in common: Tech21, Steiny, love for Yamaha......

Well, I'd like to join in this club if I may.

Yamaha AES620. All stock. Yamaha humbucker in neck and Seymour Duncan JB in bridge. Grover tuners. What a fine instrument. I can't think of anything on it I'd want to replace. Great guitar. Sorry for the lousy pic, it does not do the guitar justice.

I've got a yamaha LL16 acoustic I'm very happy with.
Had one of the tele shaped pacificas with the humbuckers, sold it, that was nice too.

Introduction and Hello.

This is my 1st post here, I have owned a Yamaha FX335 for a couple months and am trying to learn to play the guitar on that. Making very slow progress on that front.

Well today I wandered into a pawn shop and saw another Yamaha that I just had to have, it's a Yammy SE-203M. Looks like a really cheap strat copy but it isn't beat up too much, it's playable, or would be if I had even a dash of talent.

Would anyone here know when this was made. The guitar dater project says 87, 97 or 2007. The serial is OH12234 and I guess if one know when the 203s were made it would help.

I own a P-70 too but maybe electric pianos don't count

Yamaha AES 620 lefty here. Like the other poster mine is stock, charcoal top and a keeper. Now that I'm strat-less I'd like to find a decent Pacifica "S" clone in a lefty. And yes a lefty SBG would be dream come true. Well made and very underrated electrics, the AES series is an Epiphone killer to say the least.

I had this for about one month.
Great neck, hold the tuning pretty well, lightweight... it was a really nice guitar except for the pickups. Too dark.
There was something about the pickup configuration that I never bound with (I think there was too much pickups for me) and so I sold it to someone I know will enjoy it a lot more than I did.

Here's a 2000 SGV300 I just got back from a setup. The blend circuit for the two pickups closest to the bridge is a cool option and the vibrato bends down and up nicely.

AjayTele;

That black 2000 is beautiful. I've always liked the Yamaha SG/SBG models. If I had the money I'd get a black 1000 or 2000.

Thanks.

She's a little beat up, the photos cover a few of the flaws, but a very nice playing and sounding guitar nevertheless!

Shopping for Acoustic-Electric

Hey all, I'm shopping for a new acoustic-electric. I've narrowed it down to either an Ibanez or a Yamaha. The Yamaha I am looking at is the APX700. I see they have a System 56 (ART) 1way pickup with a 3 EQ and tuner.
The Ibanez has Fishman which I already own one Ibanez with Fishman and Fishman is a good pickup with quality warm sound. For those of you who own or have played an APX700 and have also owned or played any guitar with Fishman electronics, how does the System 56 line up and compare to the Fishman? I really have heard awesome reviews on these APX700s but just want to make sure the System 56 is as at least as good as the Fishman.

Also one general question for those of you with this expertise, between the body woods of Mahogany and Spruce, which gives the better sound?

Thanks,
Jack

AjayTele,

I love the green burst on the SG 700. Hows the necks on those things? Similar to the AES series or no?

Im still in love with my AES420.
(just need to slap her B3 on and im done)
