Oh my lands. When it comes to Les Pauls, I'm just a plaintop guy. Well, I do like some goldtops, but to me, the body shape and design is so classic and classy I almost think it detracts from that to have flametops or quilted tops...not to rag on anyone's guitars; I guess I just prefer things plainer.
This guitar, to my mind, is one of THE most stunningly beautiful Pauls I've ever laid eyes on. This one ^^^ is also just a gem. Great wood grain and a nice, classy, fairly subtle burst. I'd love to join this club, but all I have is a late 60s-early 70s Japanese lawsuit Les Paul... |

This is a bottom of the range LP (almost as bottom as you can go really) that I have souped up into a great little guitar.
Epiphone Invader. Indonesian made LP Jnr, came with a generic humbucker, nasty plastic nut and terrible tuners. It had a nice neck, a solid wood body and a lot of modding potential though Before;- ![]() Replaced the tuners with some much better ones I had in my parts box (actually off an old Fender acoustic). Replaced the nut with a bone one, and widened the string spacing. Replaced the humbucker with a Kent Armstrong P90 that fitted into the h/b ring. Re-strung it up with a set of Power Slinkys. ![]() Sounds and plays awesome now, and cost me very little too. |

Just had a look 'round the club for any pix on the Edwards John Sykes Custom LP. I just traded for one. Black, white binding, big neck, gotoh hardware, 2003 MIJ, plenty of buckle rash, seen a lot of road. So far sounds pretty good actually. My 14yo loves it. When I took off the old old old strings and wiped it down I remembered why I don't particularly like LP bridges.. things get out of adjustment so easy.

Welcome, GRegK. At first glance, that appears to be a knock-off from the '70's that has been made to look a bit like a Les Paul Custom. If you take a look at post #54 above...the metalflake Blue Les Paul Custom that belongs to Cmatthes, you will see that the pickup placement/arrangement is much different on yours. Also, your fretboard doesn't look like Ebony as it should be for a Custom. Your headstock is not bound as a Custom should be, and somethings about the logo and inlay on the peghead don't look correct.
There were many Made in Japan guitars in the late '70's that did a fair job of copying AMerican gutars....to the ponit that the American manufacturers threatened legal action if the Japanese did not stop production. These guitars are called lawsuit gutiars. I have a feeling that yours is one of those that someone has 'worked' on the peghead so as to look a bit more liek a Gibson. These lawsuit guitars had to lose the headstock designs. You can copy anything except the headstock design, it seems. AS proven in the recent Gibson/PRS legal wrangling. |

Gibson Les Paul Special Double Cut
I'm in with my main work horse a 1977 Gibson Les Paul Special Ltd Edition.
I always thought that these were P90 pick ups, but I think they may be stacked P100's, the guitar is pretty hum free even on high gain. I had a look inside for the first time since 1978 & there seem to be dummy pickups below the main pickups, although there's not much movement to see properly, those pups are in there to stay - its built like a brick Sh*te house. Anyone know for sure what the pups would be ? ![]()

count me in...
2006 Gibson Les Paul Studio. I swapped out the 490R and 498T for a calibrated set of Bare Knuckle Nailboms and changed all of the black plastic hardaware to cream-coloured stuff. Also changed the black speed knobs for gold ones.

I'm in as well.
My early 90's Les Paul Classic in all-gold: ![]() It's super-light and easy to play... And my 40th anniversary Les Paul: ![]() Super-heavy but IMHO the most beautiful Les Paul I've ever seen and the P90's (it used to have P100's) have that ultimate R'n'R sound...
