Still got my T60, it will be 30 years old next month. Many years ago I changed the pickups for DiMarzios and put a Fender selector switch on it. (I use a Tele now) I still use the Peavey Musician Head and 2 x 12 Black Widow cab, both 25 years old and never once needed repair.

My must recient Peavey is a Generation EXP triple/single. After having the pickups burnt out by a faulty PA I replaced them with Seymour Duncan Vintage strats and a Vintage broadcaster. Huge difference, not that the originals were "bad'. I am toying with changing ALL the electronics, upgrading the bridge and tuners and calling it a day! I suspect a MIM tele wouldnt be any nicer, and sure wouldnt play any better! Here are a few pics!

WESTEX
Hi . I'm mightilly late to this discussion I know but I caught a glimpse of another users guitar which is the same model as mine but the neck joint is different. Whereas Westex's exp earlier on in the post has 5 bolts and no plate mine has the standard 4 and a plate.
Did you do this Westex ? |

Last week I added another hoss to the Peavey USA stable, a '78-'79 PAF T-40. Haven't had a chance to take decent pics, maybe can tonight. It's one of the dreaded naturals, so it's Northern Ash and heavy, but at 10.5 pounds that's not all that much for a solid ash bass.

Picked this up for $90. Not sure what I will do with it. Nice neck.

Well after 3 months with the Peavey, I got sick of all the buzzing and took it for a setup at the shop where I bought it. 4 days later and they still couldn't get the buzz out!!! I think I got a dud!!!! Fortunately, I bought a Squier Tele Standard Friday and LOVE it!!!
Not sure what to do with the Peavey... The frets are messed up, nut needs attention. I refuse to spend $150 to get it set up right!!! $300+ for a $150 guitar doesn't seem quite right...

hello peavey owners, specially those with the generation ex triple/single guitars.
i maybe able to get the triple single cause i miss the single coil sound, specially the middle position ( i modded my gen ex with two hummers). is there a position on the five way switch which is like the middle position on the two pup tele? theres a triple/single for sale on a local list so i can't test it.did you do some mods on it? somebody also wrote that the peavey gennies are equal to the fender mims, do you think so? regards, ldr

The Genny's that I'm aware of are:
If I missed any, please add it to the list. Out of all of these, I think the early Standard and S3 are comparable to current MIM Fender stuff, IMO. The S1, S2's, and Customs are better than most MIM stuff. These are the pawnshop prize Genny's that people rave about. The Korean EXP series is probably on a par with most MIM stuff. Never cared for the necks on these though, YMMV. The Chinese EX series is more comparable to Squier. The Vintage EX, with the brass saddle bridge, is probably the best of these, but the Chinese Kluson style tuners aren't that stable compared to genuine Gotoh or Grover Kluson types. Excellent sounding stock pickups, IMHO, but to be a pro level instrument, all the Chinese stuff will probably need a fret level and crown, and possibly a new nut as well as new tuning machines. The switch and pots are cheap, but they're of the same quality that Fender put on their MIK Lite Ash Teles. |

Oops! Apparently the Chinese Genny's are all labelled EXP too, like the Korean ones, and some of the Korean ones have natural weood headstocks, like the Chinese ones. I'm pretty sure that all the Korean ones had humbuckers in the bridge, and 6 saddle bridges too. The Chinese ones all have 3 saddle bridges, with single coil pickups in the bridge position.
I think this is part of why Peavey's high-end guitars don't hold their value very well. Unless you really know what you're looking at, it can be difficult for an untrained eye to know the difference between a $150 Asian starter guitar, and something from the US Custom Shop that sold for nearly $1000 twenty years ago... Fender and Gibson both have separate brands for their entry level stuff, and clear distinctions between their mid-level and premium products too. This comes up pretty regularly on the Peavey forum, but it seems that Peavey just doesn't want to spend any money on marketing their guitars. I got a Peavey Raptor Plus TK when I turned 18 (now I'm 24) and man it has lasted through hell. Back in 2006 I got it signed by Spanish metal band "Angeles Del Infierno" and havent used it since. The other day I took it appart and put a coat of clear Laquer on it and working on a heavier coat soon. I ordered the seymour duncan Hotrods for the bridge and keeping the original neck pick up. I also ordered a new pickup selector, tone and volume pods (500k), and a new imput. so hopefully it'll turn out to be a beast.

![]() Sorry I didn't answer this the first time. No, I think the 5 way on the Generation Triple EX works like on a Strat. |

Here's my Rotor EXP... I've since put a set of EMG 81/85 in it for my Metallica moments!

[QUOTE=JayFreddy;2142930]I have one of these and I like it. I actually like the stock bridge pickup for Tele twang, but I find the neck pickup a bit weak. I think upgrading the pots and switch is a smart move. The jack on mine has been fine, nice metal Les Paul style mounting plate, not plastic as you would expect on a budget line guitar. Factory stock it will hang with the nicer Squiers I've seen, even some of the Mexi's too. It's so funky looking, in a cool way, IMHO...
Yeah the neck pick up is a little on the weak side but I actually like it for just plain clean sound (a counter balance to the Hot rails, I think lol). To tell you the truth when I first got the guitar I thought it was just a cheap guitar but overtime I noticed, like you mentioned about the mounting plate, it is extremely well built for a budget guitar. The neck is just amazing it compares to my schecter. |

Those T 60's look cool. I had a T 40 long ago. Anyhow I bought this yesterday. 83' T-30 clean as they come, save for 3 minuscule dings.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here are a few specs -Short scale 23 1/2" -Vintage Kluson style tuners stamped Peavey Trulock - 2 piece bi-laminated Rock Maple neck -12" radius -18% nickel silver frets Easiest playing guitar I've ever held. Can't wait to see how this thing is wired. Huge range of tones. The owners manual describes the pups Single Coil High Performance, High Power, Full Range. I'm losing interest in my Squier CV strats already, and I've only played it a half hour. |
