Squier Standard Owners Club

Just to join in with this great new direction.

How about us Squier Standard owners. Post pics and descriptions of these under-rated, highly playable and good value guitars.

I'll start

It looked like this at first

Then I modded it. Hotter neck pickup opened out cover, 4 way switch, and punched metal pickguard.

Currently it has Fender amp knobs and a pearl white plate, but that could all change again....!

Post your Squier Standards!!!!

2004 Standard Fat Telecaster which is kept in open G.
Originally looked like this

Have changed one or two things.
Squier 51 neck, Tonerider AC4 humbucker, Wilkinson WVOB bridge pickup, black 5 hole guard, all new electrics. Everything except the neck and knobs came from Axesrus.

Axerus wiring kit w/CTS pots, waxed cloth covered wire, Oak 3 way switch.
AllParts knobs, bought on ebay because AllParts UK is permanently back ordered for 95% of their inventory.

Tonerider AC4 reversed to see what it sounded like. Frankly I can't really hear a difference, but the fiddly screws and springs annoyed me so much I can't be bothered switching it back.
Super bodge-job cutting the pickguard for the humbucker - combination of drill and Stanley knife. Adds character (!)

Will probably fit a graphtech nut on next string change. Apart from that I think it's pretty much finished.
It's a keeper.

Mine's a late 2005 Fat Telecaster. Looks like Sollophonic's but with a humbucker and a black pickguard. I swapped the bridge pickup for a Seymour Duncan STL-1B. I hope someday to get a Velvet Hammer in it. And a different humbucker.

Here's my 2005 Antique Sunburst. I filled and drilled holes to convert it to a vintage style bridge. The pickguard is a creamy white pearloid from Stewmac. CTS 250k audio taper pots, CRL 3-way switch, Fender barrel (flat-top) knobs, top hat switch, Fender MIM control plate. I've had other pickups in it but it's back to the stock Mighty Mite AlNiCo pickups now and I think they are great pickups. I think this is one of my Squier Teles that I had to replace the original flimsy jack keeper with a better one from StewMac.

The bridgeplate on it now I like for its thickness (slightly thicker and stiffer than FENDER PAT PEND), but the toploader holes are poorly placed. It's a Mighty Mite plate.

The saddles are RS Guitarworks steel. They came with the typical 3mm diameter, .5mm thread pitch screws, I drilled and tapped them for the Fender 6-32 screws you see in them now.

Here is my 2005 Standard with GFS Hot Punchers and a black pickguard.

And how it looks now.

Lots of plugging, drilling, and routing. Wilkinson compensted bridge and GFS pups round out the mods.

My so-called LE model. Couple of mods, Complete re-wire with BKP Yardbird set and 4way switch. Planet waves trim-lock tuners. And a new bone nut.

david, there's no need to get a chip on your shoulder. There's so much traffic on the TDPRI, not every post someone makes is guaranteed to have a followup. You shouldn't assume that because there was no reply soon after yours, that anyone thought anything negative about you or your gear.

I wouldn't worry whether or not others consider it a "real" Tele. Fender considers it real enough to put the name Tele on it. That's enough for me.

But you will probably stand a better chance of getting more Affinity Tele owners to respond with followup posts about their Affinitys, by starting a new thread in this forum dedicated to the Squier Affinity Tele.

Just got it Friday.

My very first guitar. Been using a borrowed one since Feb. It does seem to be a great value for the cost. I did a setup on it yesterday then played it a bunch. I really think I am gonna like it a lot!

I just bought a used Squier Standard, it's Walnut, just like BadHorsie's picture 6 posts up. It's got a 4-way switch instead of the standard 3-way. The seller, who was not the original owner, claims it came from the factory that way, I think that's probably not true.

I notice that on the Squier web site, there is no Service Manual PDF file available for the Standard. Anyone know why?

Richard

The simple answer is, they don't have them for all the Squier models. But there is one here for the Standard Telecaster® Black and Chrome (Special Edition) which is a Standard Series model, and that Tele has many of the same parts, and the same electronic parts and wiring scheme, as the Standard model in the Squier Standard Series. If you need replacement parts, you can order them from a Fender dealer. Music Parts Guru can probably get them for you, if you want to deal with an online dealer. They were able to find the right part number and get me a pickguard for a Squier Vintage Modified Custom II Tele.

Can anyone tell me which sizes of allen/hex keys I need for a Squier Standard Tele? Especially for adjusting the height of the saddles. Also for the truss rod, but no rush on that.

Thanks,
Richard

Can I join in?

Hi all.

I just got my '08 Squier Standard Tele which is the same color as the original poster's. This would be my first Tele and I am just loving it.

Currently, I am playing it through a Pignose I was able to get for $30. Eventually, I plan on feeding the Pignose to a Gina20 soundcard in my homebuilt DAW.

Cheers.

Mitch

I just measured mine with digital callipers
Saddles - 1.5mm
Truss rod - 3.95mm (I'm guessing its probably a 4mm wrench)
