The Double Bound Telecaster Owners Club

Ok, so this is an attempt to create the official DBTOC thread. Supposed to be about all things double bound. (Uhm, Telecasters that is.) So there will be a member listing in a post here, DB news, eBay finds (and not so great items). New members, their guitars, binding techniques if you want (boy does that sound like a dry subject.) Anything you guys want to talk about goes here, as long as it is DB related.

One or two notes:
This thread will live for as long as there is interest in it. So if you like this, show it by posting, replying, commenting. And keep doing it! Pictures are welcome. I don't want to "take up space" on page 1 if no one reads it, so no response means "no thanks". While I can easily fill it all by myself, the day I am the only one posting for a long time I will shut it down. (Or rather leave it to slide down to those never explored vaults known as page 2 and 3 etc...)

While this is known as the Double Bound Telecaster Owners Club, you don't have to be a member to post here. If you have yet to buy your first one, or never wanted one, that's cool. (I know you are out there. Nothing to be ashamed of.)

Also, it does not say Fender. So anyone with a Tele style guitar, G&L, custom builds, MIK or anywhere else copies. Long as they are shaped like Teles and have double binding, you're welcome to join the club. Natural (scraped) wood binding and even painted ones are fine too.

Geir :)

"Old" DBTOC members please read

I have never really bothered to keep track of the "members" of the DBTOC. I know who some of you are, but not all. So please, whether you are an existing member or want to become one, please send me an email or private message with your name, city, country, and details of your double bound Tele. Then post a note here about it, and upload pictures to the members section at http://www.telecastergallery.com.

I don't really want any more details. I will not contact any of you except through this thread, unless private contact is needed or wanted, so no street address, email or any personal information...

Cool. Keep us posted when you get it. I know how that feels. My latest DB (the orange 90s Thinline) is currently in a UPS van somewhere in the streets of Kennewick, Washington, soon to be delivered to a friend of mine there. (At least of we can trust their tracking system.) And I still don't know when I can get over to pick it up.

I'm in

I had always admired them. The beautiful Teles and LPs that we've all seen are wonderful examples of the luthiers art. I think it's a really elegant addition to a guitar and when the opportunity came to trade up to one, I was on it. It only took me 2 years to get the deal done. My MIM went to a coworker and my 3burst/RW MIJ was finally mine. She's more than 10 years old, possibly 80s, but like all beauties she has a flaw, having been brutally desecrated  a long time ago with what is now a very heavy :? toploader bridge. :x With fine tuners. :( Slightly crooked. However, the beast resonates really well and sounds better than the old one, so she's my baby. There is an ambition for an eventual db thinline. My $ hasn't yet stretched (4 kids) to get a digicam, but I need to get one. (4 kids grandma) Dogg

Bound to Double Bound

I've got two now (CAR & Sunburst). Hard to imagine buying
a tele without now. They seem sorta naked.

If it is Made in Japan, it is an 85 or 86. If it says Crafted in Japan, it is a 97 or 98. Check the MIJ guitar dater FAQ at http://www.mrgearhead.net/faq/axdaterapx.html

I've cut down, but I'm still in

I can remember Ol' Fuzzy rootin' me on in the chat room when I was bidding on this baby on ebay. Not a good picture and I have a pair of Bill Lawrence Pups in her now, but she's still in the stable.

Thanks, Geir, '85 it is...

...and in very good nick for 18 years old. Don't think it was ever played that much. And it hung on the wall in the shop for months. What was wrong with the rest of the world? I went weak at the knees the first time I saw it!

Anyone seen one of these before?

Hmmm, this is claimed to be a 1977. First one I have seen from the '70s with a double binding. Anyone know more about them?

Sorry, got to keep a strict line, or before you know it people will join with Warlocks and who knows what! :D

You could always take a pencil and watercolors and paint on an extra binding. Maybe I won't notice, and then you can wash it off later.

Count me in!

Here's Mine:

Stewart-Macdonald maple neck with ebony fingerboard, homemade alder body with 1/10-inch maple cap, Tom Holmes humbucker at the neck, Fender 57/62 Strat in the middle, and Fender Vintage Tele at the Bridge, on a 5-way switch (N, N+B, M, M+B, B). If you've never heard a combination of a Strat pickup in the middle combined with a Tele bridge pickup it is a real treat: the "quack" of a Strat in-between position combined with the bite and thump of a good Tele bridge pickup!

Overpriced, me thinks. You may think it is fair. But regardless it sure looks good.

Another 90s Thinline, overpriced?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=38083

Yet another 90s Thinline for sale. Though dealers like to claim they are hard to get, they pop up frequently on eBay. A starting bid of 1100 is way high, I have only seen two reach a thousand before. One went for 1200 after a crazy bidding round earlier this week.

The other was the black half of a black and white pair, still wish I had bough them.

Anyway, dealers are more expensive. Rumbleseat has an orange one on their site for 1400(!), I bought mine in absolute mint condition for 980.

Read the auction text it doesn't sound like the seller is a big fan of ebay. Here's a quote "Due to eBay's new system of charging a huge percentage for reserve auctions, we are no longer listing anything with a reserve. Thus our opening price is what we hope to get for the item. Please e-mail inhouseguitars@attbi.com with any serious offers on items that don't sell on eBay. '

I'd say he's just trying to get someone to make him an offer outside of ebay. He might not like ebay's reserve auction fees but you can't beat it for cheap advertising.

I agree with you its a nice guitar but not $5k nice.

Yeah, I saw that. I bet eBay doesn't like it much, and will probably tell him so. Any solicitation to trade outside eBay is a big no-no...

Anyway, even avoiding the eBay fees ain't gonna make this one cheap.
