Due to eBay's new system of charging a huge percentage for reserve auctions, we are no longer listing anything with a reserve. Thus our opening price is what we hope to get for the item.
I, for one, am glad to see this. I hate reserve auctions. Give me your price, and don't make me play guessing games.

There is a similar attitude at guitar shows. "How much is that guitar?" "Make me an offer" OK, we're going to start at a buck, and play this game until the seller tells me what the price of the guitar is. :x

I agree.

However, there will be a lot of failed (no bid) auctions this way, and will take longer for people to get the point. Price point that is. With the reserve auctions, sellers would get bids up to a point, and thereby get an indication of how much the market was willing to pay for a guitar. Now they will start on high minimum bids, get none, and where to start the next time becomes guesswork...

But in the long run, I think it is good.

Geir :)

A great pair!!

LuthierTom's custom Tele, posted on the other side, is actually one of a pair, the other being a matching Strat. He just sent me a picture of them both. Me thinks this is major pretty stuff!!!

Keep 'em coming!!

Those are really nice!

Saw a nice Fret Kings Thinline double-bound at the London Guitar show. £1200! Ouch...Very nice Wilkinson bridge, demonstrated to me by...Trevor Wilkinson! I'm gonna get me one o' they, and the matching item for the Sting '53 P-bass!

62ri

Count me in! I just received my 62RI 3tone burst from Ishibashi. Love it! But I will be changing the pickups to Kinmans soon. Then it will be perfect. 8)

What's your favorite color binding

Thickness? What do you like?

I prefer the classy look of the cream myself, although the white with or without stripes of various types is sharp.
I really don't like the brown binding on the natural finish Fender 90's Thinline. It just doesn't look right to me.

got one

Mine is one of those metallic red/purple colored 62 reissue Made in Japan "esquire" copies w/two pickups (now has lawrence 280s) and used to have a bigsby but I removed that. Fantastic neck and great tone, I keep trying to play other guitars and coming back to this one. Anybody know exactly what years these were made, what the specs were etc? Best tele I ever had.

Speaking of Bound guitars...

On a somewhat related topic, am I the only one who thinks the mid to late 60s Jaguars with the bound necks are the coolest looking things? I would love to have a 66ish blonde jag with a tortoise guard and a bound neck (not the block markers, but the dots). Nice vibe! Does anyone have one? I've never played one, but I love the look.

DB '68 Custom on eBay!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=38083

If it is original, it is well worth a look. But not for my kind of budget, I'll stick to newer guitars.

DB CS Masterbuilt Larry Brooks

Not for me this one, since I want my Teles to have a bridgeplate with a slanted PU. But it is black&white with double binding, and looks sharp.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=38083

EDIT: Oh, and I should add one thing! I do not neccessarily say that the guitars I present here are worth the asking price, nor do I vouch for their authenticity or condition. Buyer beware, always!

Geir :)

Odd, that...

The black double-bound is being sold with a r/w f/b, yet it's 'featured on the cover of Vintage Guitar' with a maple board.

Sharp eye, man! I don't know. First I thought maybe he liked the neck so much he kept it and bolted another on for the sale. But then I went back to the eBay ad and clicked to supersize the image, and it actually looks like it is RW on the mag as well, it is just "washed out" in print or by the light.

It would appear from the Mr. gearhead dater that my JD is '85/86, but the model didn't appear until '92...

Hmmm, if you go to the bottom of the table you will see that they started reusing the serialnumbers for the CIJ models in '97. So maybe yours is CIJ and not MIJ?

As some could well imagine.....

....my double bound is the Waylon Tribute Tele from Fender's Custom Shop.

:-)

The Waylon Jennings Tribute Telecaster is based on his floral patterned '63 Tele. Features include a bound ash body with white rose inlay, special slim profile maple neck with flying "W" 12th fret inlay, Elite machine heads with pearloid buttons, Scruggs tuner on the low E string, 21 frets, two Texas Tele pickups and American Standard Tele bridge.....from http://www.fender.com/gear/gear.php?partno=0100302

Waylon passed from this ol' world on Feb 13th, 2002.

Later that evening, Fender had already posted this tribute to Waylon. Knowing when the news was released, and when Fender's tribute first appeared, it was obvious that someone stayed late to put this up.

This kind and considerate gesture, certainly uncommon in today's corporate world, earned the folks at Fender my respect and admiration. Click here if you'd like to read this tribute, titled "An Outlaw Hangs Up His Strings"......

Jeff, I think it's against the law to post a pic of a guitar like that around here...you could be charged with creating major GAS....if not, it should be...I know my wallet thinks it's against the law.....anyway...great guitar.....how's it sound?
good luck and watch out for the GAS cops.....don

How's it sound?

Sounds great, so long as someone else is pickin it!!

The Texas Tele p'ups are a little 'hotter' than I like - have a 52 complete with full leather jacket that you might recognize - like the vintage sound better.

Gonna try the EMG's next.

Another Double Bounder.

I was lucky enough to acquire one of the American Designer Edition 62ri Customs made for GC. It's a 2000 model and has a beautiful bookmatched quilted maple top and back. There's a pic of it, not great quality, along with 3 other guitars of mine on the Telecaster Gallery. :)

All members! Please post pics to the Gallery

Ok, so we have by now 23 members with at least 31 DBTs. But there are only 15 pics in the gallery, 4 of which are mine. Please go to http://www.telecastergallery.com and post pictures of your guitars, if you haven't already.

Thanks,
Geir :)

I like em. I have a DB '62 RI in SB and a black/gold
with light grey pearloid binding RWB '96 (Anniversary)
Custom. Both are NIJ models.
The black one will be for sale soon though as I don't
play it. It is a stunning looking and great playing one.

I paid 150 dollars for the gold Bigsby. The installation cost me "nothing", it was an exchange of favours...

Re: Anyone seen one of these before?

I have seen that guitar in person. It has made a few laps around Atlanta and hung on a few store walls. If it is a 77 model, it has been in sorage since new. There is no way for there not to be a little dust somehwere on it. It appears to have replacement parts One item of note is the ashtray. It looks like a replacement because the chrome is not smooth on the bottom side liekthe originals. Pluse there is signs of eletro plating and Fender "cold dips: their parts. My take is that it's a 77 neck mated with whatever body. Did they even offer metallic paint in 77? Granted it is a nice guitar and I would like to have it but maybe in 1100. range is more realistic.

Re: Geir...relisted

That guitar is at the Guitar Center aka Instrument Exchange. Speaking of which, now an "unregistered user" ??. At any rate, they said it was verified by Fender in writing although no papers could be produced for me to see. I drove from S. Carolina to look at it and waited a couple hours to see the COA. I called a reliable source in Nashville and was told the Custom (double bound) were not made like that after 72. The customs after 72 were woth the humbucker and larger pick guard. I will say this, that is a fine guitar with only a tiny little scar that you cannot see from 2 feet away. Too many things did not add up so I left empty handed. If anyone wants to ask about the guitar, call the Guiter Center in Atlanta and ask for Billy. HE is in charge of the "vintage" room.

Thanks guys!
Now clicking the "relisted" link gives me an "Invalid item" message. Wonder what happened....

Oh well, plenty other fun double bounds to waste my time and interest on. 8)
