They're really light, 9.5 lbs, and it's a small amp. Easy to carry around, very portable/practical. And they're surprisingly loud given how small they look - which makes sense, they're 200W (although... I think it's actually 120W, but I'm not sure, might want to look into that). It sounds really good despite the small speaker, I've heard people say it sounds like an old champ. I'm not sure how true that is, but it's a very versatile amp. The cleans are really good, lotsa headroom. The gain's good too, you kind of always need to have some on for it to sound good, but it does sound very good. It sounds great when you run it through a cab too.

It's a very versatile little amp. It's gigworthy, I've done a few shows with it (with a cab, I've heard people have played live without one, I wouldn't). You can get their little cab if you want to keep things super portable, I use a big one though. Because it's solid state you can still get good tone at low volumes, so it's good at home too. It's also got a headphone jack, which is nice.

All in all, I highly recommend it. If you can, try it out. I use a few pedals through it - if you're more of a plug straight into the amp kinda guy maybe consider the Club instead of the Lunchbox. But it's got more power and is louder, so it depends on how what you're looking for really. So yeah, try it out if you can and see if you like it. It's $250 US here, so I don't know what it costs over there, but I assume it's relatively budget friendly. Again... I highly recommend it.
well...i phoned the company directly this past summer and they said San Francisco....and here where i live they cost $450....so i am waiting a bit before i get one.

Oh - I was just going off the box I got mine in. SF and Berkeley are so close though, right across the Bay Bridge, so pretty much the same area. Oh man, not so price friendly then. Still a good amp & I still recommend it.

Just curious, what're amp prices generally like up around you? That price jump doesn't look to pretty, is it always that bad?

Generic

I don't want to offend anyone but I think the amps that were made in the '50's are the ones that make a Tele speak to ME !

By "generic" I mean the common production line amps that are always mentioned.

You know,the classic 30,blues junior & deville,all the fender reissues,the chinese voxes,etc.,etc.

I know it sounds silly in this modern world but I like to buy stuff that's made in the usa.
I'm willing to pay more $ for it too.

I'm aware that some folks demand a lot of bells & whistles on their amps
{eq,effects loop,reverb,modeling,power attenuation,etc.}

Not ME.

I like a simple signal path that's all tube.
I like them hand wired with quality components.
I am aware that a QUALITY printed board can be very reliable and sound great so let's NOT argue about that.

I discovered my first "magic" tube amp in '83. A '61 Brown Deluxe.
I had played black & silver face fender princeton, bassman, twin reverb, silvertone, etc.

When I plugged my first tele {'83 american standard} into that amp I was hooked.
Before that moment I had only tried tele's through the scooped mids of the black & silverface fenders.
I thought they sounded "tinny".
The lack of midrange presence did not impress me.

When you think about it.
The tele was conceived and played and "tweaked" {tweaker reference} through the tweed amps from the '50's.
Those amps have BIG midrange presence.

The "vintage" type low output pickups through a good tweed has balls and sparkle.

JJ
Hook a tele up to one and the amp fills out the midrange for you.

Not offended at all - just curious!

I've played through a few vintage silverface champs and princetons at a local music store and they were pretty amazing. Pricey though! Although it's the most overpriced store around (even compared to the super corporate stores).

But I can see why you've got an appeal towards vintage amps. I've never tried a tweed - but from what you're saying... well... I must try one!

it depends...right now from what i know the dollars are fairly even but usually we pay a lot more than what you do....when i get a guitar from Bob...it might cost you say 650 plus shipping....it cost me 650 + exchange + shipping + customs tax when i get it....so i usually pay anywhere between 800 and 1000 tepending on where the dollar sits at the time

Tweed Twin

"i like an amp with amp, treble and reverb.."

I find that I don't miss 'verb on a tweed because there is so much harmonic content & sustain available.

When I played my silverface twin I only used the 'verb sparingly. (on 2 or 3)

Here's my Tweed Twin.
Victoria makes it.
It's 35 - 50 watts depending on the tubes that I put in it.
I'm runnin' kt66's,12ay7's,5r4 to make around 35w.
It has 2 channels with vol, bass, treble, presence.
It's the first fender with presence.
I run a weber silver bell (60's marshall tone and a blue dog (60's vox tone).

Yeah, Robert, I remember your Logan. I like the look of that Seymour Duncan mini hum in the neck, bet it sounds great. Actually, I remember you getting some nice tones in the vid you posted back when, but I can't remember offhand if you played through the neck or not.

I hear ya on the Wilkinson bridge pup. More than versatile enough for what I can do. That same pup is in all of the Logans I've played: my two, my son's, my son-in-laws. And as I said earlier, my son figured he could switch out the Wilkinsons if they didn't suit him, but so far (after a year or so) he's left 'em in.

Oh, and I really like that cherry body. Such a warm, beautiful look.

Oh you might not want the Lunchbox then. The Club may be a better choice for you. The Lunchbox just has Volume, Gain, and Ambience (older models had "Reverb" but it wasn't an accurate title of what it did). The club's got trebel controls and reverb that works like reverb.

Double Deluxe

This is the amp that Leo should have made.
It has the coveted tweed deluxe preamp coupled with the HUGE transformers that are in the twin in a tweed twin cab.
It sports volume & tone and you can jumper the channels.
You can vary the power/feel by swapping out rectifiers {5y3,5v4,5u4,5r4,5ar4}.
I'm runnin' a 5r4,4x6v6's,12ax7,12ay7,weber blue & silver.
This amp is very touch/dynamics sensitive and very LOUD !

Hi boys, thought I'd give you a report from my amp shopping today. As expected the Logan sounds tremendous plugged in. I tried an Egnater Tweaker, Rebel 20, Fender Mustang II, Vox Valvetronix. I had Bob put in Kinman Broadcasters in mine and while they sound spectacular I'm somewhat surprised how noisy they are. I was expecting a true noiseless pickup and they're not. I would say they're less noisy than your average Tele type pickup but certainly not noiseless. I have a 4 way switch in mine and all 4 positions yielded great tones. As for the amp, believe it or not, I'm leaning toward the Mustang II. Quite a bang for your buck there.......

Hey, there's a new YouTube vid featuring a Logan Custom Tele. Posted just today. I don't know who this is (beyond the username stratmancruthers), but I thought it should be posted to this thread, so here ya go.

Thanks, Sanford. More important than it being my 57th birthday is the fact that this day (for those of us in the USA, at least) is Veteran's Day. Remember and honor those that have served their country in the armed forces.

I plan to visit veteran named Bill, a man that until just recently I would take with me to the nursing home every week. He served in the Pacific theater of operations during WWII, landed on Okinawa. He was wounded badly and spent 12 months in a hospital bed. When he recuperated, they shipped him out to another island rock where he was promptly shot again. He's talked to me about those times in the hospital when he wanted to get out so bad because his buddies were out there on the beaches getting shot at. He would get a tone of remorse in talking about convalescing while his buddies were getting killed. I'd say to him, "Yeah, but you were there, you did your bit, and we're grateful."

At the nursing home (actually, retirement center) that I took him to there was another WWII vet that also landed on Okinawa. It was a treat for Bill to be with his peers and to hear music that took him back; at nursing homes I always play their era of music, not mine. I do patriotic songs and fun things like "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B," among other things like "It's a Good Day" (the song by Peggy Lee & her guitarist husband David Barbour), "Ain't Misbehavin'," "Blue Moon," "Always," "Autumn Leaves," etc.

Okay, enough rambling. I'm off to Guitar Center and then to have lunch with Beth and then see Bill.

Sanford, I've heard of vets that react like that. I figure whatever they witnessed or had to do was so bad they just don't want to relive it, and I respect that.

Bill was different; he talked about the war. In fact, he has a grandson that grew up on his grandfather's gung ho war stories, and that boy is in the marines now, stationed in Japan. (How's that for irony?)

Bill's not doing well, BTW. I don't think I mentioned it yesterday, but he's in the hospital with pneumonia. He was pretty out of it yesterday when I went by to visit him. I stood by his bedside and talked to him, but I don't think he knew I was there.

Bill is 85 and until just a couple of weeks ago, he was in pretty good health for his age. He has been suffering from dementia, for several years, in fact, but until recently it was easy enough to deal with. Things like at the end of my gig coming up to me confused about how he got to the retirement center and asking me for a ride home, when I was his ride in the first place. Now his dementia has gotten pretty bad.

This afternoon I will play again at the retirement center, and this is the second week in a row that Bill will not be with me. Sad.

On a more upbeat note, I will be playing tonight at the cafe, and there is another guitar player there, Mike, and he has been considering buying an electric. To this point, Mike has been strictly an acoustic guy. He's a retired teacher, and he's giving his attention now to playing. He's bought a couple of Martins in recent years, and was thinking about an electric. After seeing and hearing both my Logans in action, he's interested. We're talking about getting together at his house and jamming a bit, and I'll bring both Logans and let him get a sense of what he might like. So far he's been really impressed by my mahogany, which isn't surprising given the fact that one of his Martins is a D-15 Mahogany.

Well, not a lot new to say, but this is my 1,500th post, and so I wanted to make it in this thread.

BTW, as it turned out I didn't play either place yesterday, due to back problems. No, I haven't thrown my back out...but I'm considering it! Thank you, thank you...I'll be here all week. Isn't there a "Groan" emoticon? Or perhaps I should say, as in UK parlance, "I'll get me coat."

Still looking forward to jamming with Mike on the Logans and hopefully nudging him in the direction of getting a Logan Custom of his own.
