Hmmm, well not to get too far off the "Logan" theme. I think the Stu Daddy is a Deluxe the way Fender use to make them with the addition of a modded normal channel that gives you a "Tweed type" sound. It gives you the "Blackface" and more so I don't know if the "same amp different name" fits.
The main point of the post though was that the Logan has worked so well for me it enabled me to sell off a guitar I thought I would never part with to pick up an amp really like. Both of these moves were gambles. I had no idea if buying a guitar that I had never seen by a maker I'd never heard of and then buying an amp the same way would work out. It seemed like a recipe for disaster. In the end I came up big. |

Glad you have something that works for you but looking at what a Yorkville AM 100 is we have two completely different animals. Unless you had a Stu Daddy your Fender Deluxe wasn't "exactly same as" but that's ok we both are happy with the gear we own so it's all good.

I ordered a Logan a few weeks ago and now it's done and I'm just waiting for it to land on my doorstep. Bob was great to work with and it came out perfect. I'll have a review of it and the Keystones when I get it.

Just curious, what neck profile did you order? For that matter, I'd like to hear about the rest of the specs. Body wood? Color (my old monitor sometimes deceives me, but that looks like "Honey Blonde")? Switching? etc. etc. And I agree with Chris (Tonemonkey): "your machineheads are way cool." Reminds me of the tuners on Sanford's (telecaster man's) Logan strat.

Thanks guys, as for the color it's a barely transparent graffiti yellow. The neck is a fat V shape, the body is swamp ash, and the tuners are indeed "way cool" Originally I wanted all black hardware, but then decided that I'd just go with the machine heads to balance out the color or the pickguard and that way I'd still have some chrome. I was inspired to go with that shape guard by littlewing6283.
As you know it has Keystones under the strings, they're wired with a 4 way switch for series/parallel action when both pickups are activated. I think that's about it. I'm really excited and it should be in my hands Saturday.

Hmmm...perhaps your Graffiti yellow Tele can get together with my little yellow Taxi...
![]() Seriously, good choices. I like the color, and the tuners. I'm a fan of the concept of compliment by contrast. The black tuners contrast the chrome of the bridge and control plates and the brighter tones of the graffiti yellow body and maple board, but ties in with the PG. And going that way gives it a unique look, which IMHO is a good call, especially considering it's a custom guitar.

Proud
Well my chest is very puffed and my head may swell. The "eyersquire" that Bob built for me is now one of the guitars that Bob uses as a color type. He calls it forest green. That is more than likely what it is,but I will still call it "Irish Green". So lets start getting more green and Blue guitars out there. I like wood but a beautiful wood(like ash) with a lovely color(like the eyersquire) is just the cats pajamas. Can't wait to get it home.

Re: my Crate, I'm really fond of that little yellow Taxi. Those portable Crates are workhorses, and the Crate TX-30 (Taxi) was built in the USA. It was a gift from my kids when I first started playing out. While raising three kids I didn't gig, aside from the occasional wedding gig (wedding service and/or reception). When the last of our three were grown and gone, I started gigging at local coffee shops. My very first gig was on a borrowed amp, then the kids went in together to get me this Crate Taxi. So I'm sentimental about it and will never sell it for that reason alone. And it's been great for the small venues and outdoor events that I do. This little sucker's loud. After 7+ years of running a mic and a/e guitar through it, the battery needs replacing. Other than that, it's still solid and in working order. I'll replace the battery and keep it as my amp for acoustic and/or for backup.

My new logan came in the mail today and it's amazing. The neck is a nice V shape, it's almost a hard V, but not quite.
The color looks even better in person and really I'm just incredibly impressed with how well it came out. The Keystone pickups are amazing, when clean they are crystal clear and every note stands out, when dirty they are still very clear and they bite. I couldn't have asked for better pickups than these. It's a really nice weight too, I don't have a scale, but I'd guess it's just under 8 pounds. The thing I'm most impressed with is the sustain because this guitar has better sustain than my solid mahogany neck-through ibanez. It plays better than any american standard I've ever played, in fact I'd put this guitar on par with a 52RI and it cost me less than half the price. If anyone reading this isn't sure they want to go the Bob Logan route, I say go for it because there is no way you will be disappointed.

Your Logan and your Pick ups
I had Bob put Lace Sensors in mine. They seem to have a little too much dirt in them. They just don't have the "clean" that I want. I know I liked my previously owned Nocaster pups. I'm thinking of having a set put in my Logan. What pups do you have in yours and what do they offer that made you choose them. The Sensors aren't bad just maybe not designed for great cleans? Anyone else have an opinion on Lace Sensors?

Hmmm, Robert…a puffed out chest and a swollen head over your “eyersquire” being the basis for Bob’s color Forest Green. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again:
“Sure, and you’re ‘Eyerish’ now, laddie, and no mistake!” (I wish you still had that photobucket pic of yourself available for this forum. It would be appropriate here. But since we’re talking about your “eyersquire,” we should have some pics here. ![]()

Hello Larry

the picture you speak of is available. I just removed them because I don't want to hurt any of the "other builders" and "regular members" feelings. I promised Paul I would be good. So I wont post any really pointed considerations of a certain or particular guitar. The pictures of the "eyersquire" are the pics that Bob sent. I figure those are okay,as anyone can make of them as they wish. We all know how we feel about B.L. and his L???N C?????S. so I feel in this thread it would be preaching to the choir,as it were. I will continue like you and many others to appreciate what I will, and hope eventually the aforementioned O.B's and R.M's will learn to"Love and let Love"LoL. I just wish this crap economy would get right as I am gassing like mad. LoL. Oh and "Hostage of love" that is just the sweetest thing to say and if its not a song it needs to be. and you seem tall enough. how tall is your wife and you?

Yeah, "Hostage of Love." Somebody needs to write that one. I can almost hear it...a Huey Lewis meets Don Henley kind of thing.
As for our comparative heights, for more than 36 years Beth and I have joked that I'm 5'10" and she's 5'12" (

Bob emailed me yesterday about a new guitar he has in his gallery. He just knows I like to keep up with his creations, and so he regularly sends me emails with attached pics. Here’s a pic:
![]() You can get a better look plus some specs if you go to Bob’s website, more specifically to his blog page for his gallery guitars: [http://logancustoms.blogspot.com/]. The dark blue doesn’t show up well on my old monitor. I probably should prioritize buying a new computer or at least a new monitor over new guitars and amps…but guitars and amps are so much more fun! This dark blue has SD pups (SH-1 59 coil tapped w/ 5-way switch and an STR-2 hot neck pup).

Further update on my Logan. I had Bob put in Lace Sensors the T-150 + T-100 when I ordered it. I went with them because what I read about the one's he put in as standard didn't thrill me. Well the Lace pups seemed to be a little too aggressive for the tone I had in my head. Just not what I wanted. I knew the Nocaster pups worked for me from the Nocaster I sold so I had a set of Nocasters put in the Logan.
I now have a great amp in the Stu-Daddy Deluxe and the Logan is sounding great too. I think I'm done. No more endless hours on the net looking at amps and Tele's wondering what I'm looking for. I'm done. My only issue is selling off the Lace pups. I'm like the Godfather, I can make you a deal you can't refuse. They just weren't my sound nothing wrong with them. $120.00 upgrade on the Logan. Oops, well now I have close to a $1,000 in the Logan but hey..........I'm done. |

gvonpaul, I kind of understand what you mean. I was a Les Paul guy for 30 years. I had a strat but never bonded with it at all. I only started playing Telecasters in the past year and I love them. I now have 4 of them. Each has its own differences that I love them all (kind of like my kids).
Anyway, I hope you like the Logan. |

(GAS, in case you haven't encountered this acronym on this forum yet, stands for "Guitar Acquisition Syndrome" or "Gear Acquisition Syndrome." And I personally maintain that we should extend the meaning of the acronym further, to encompass guitar or gear that we are waiting on, to wit, "Guitar Anticipation Syndrome" and "Gear Anticipation Syndrome.") Oh, and welcome to the Logan Custom Guitar Club, both the owners' club and this thread. Glad to have you here. Looking forward to that report on how she performs at the gig. Are you like 300 miles or so away from Bob? Do you make the trip up to Delafield and pick her up yourself, or did Bob ship her to you? Just curious. I would love to be able to spend just a few hours driving to get to Bob's place. I'm not thinking of moving from Texas, mind you, just a little envious of all y'all that live up near him.

I have a question for you tele lovers. I recently acquired another custom tele in a trade. It's a fantastic sounding axe and feels great. The only thing I am wondering about is the neck. The neck is in three sections. I asked the guy if the neck had been repaired and he stated that the builder made it that way. The neck is maple but the middle section is birds-eye maple. So the headstock is one piece, the length of the neck is birds-eye and the piece that fits into the slot of the body is the same kind of maple as the headstock. The fretboard is all one piece. I've never seen anything like it before so that's why I thought I'd see if anyone here has come across it before. Since the axe is very nice, I'm kind of mystified if it wasn't a repaired neck, why would anyone do this? Any ideas? I've looked all over the internet to see if this had some sort of purpose. Oh well, if it was repaired, you'd never know by listening and playing it. Although, I noticed it immediately when taking a glance. I made the trade and I'm not unhappy about it, just curious about this.

Well, I’ve sent Bob Logan another cashier’s check in the amount of $684 to pay for another Logan Custom “Logo” Thinline. It’s not for me, however, it’s for my son. He had to sell his Highway One, and it’s just been breaking my heart that he’s Tele-less. So my wife and I decided to do this for him. We offered him either a solid body or a Thinline; he’s played both of mine, so he has a frame of reference for both.
![]() ![]() He likes both, but preferred my Thinline. When we started discussing his options for his custom built guitar, one of Bob’s gallery guitars caught my son’s eye (mine too, for that matter). It was the used Natural South American Cedar one. Though solid body, he liked the look of the cedar in natural finish with the tort pickguard. Here it is. ![]() So my son’s guitar will have the same basic appearance as my Thinline above, same cutout, pickguard shape and control plate. However, it will have South American cedar veneers done in natural finish, a tortoise 3-ply pickguard and a maple fretboard with a custom light amber tint the same as Bob’s gallery guitar above. Like mine, it will have chrome appointments, 3-way switching, a vintage style bridge and Wilkinson pups. Bob told me he has the cedar veneers so he can get started on the build right away. So in about a month or so, I will be posting pics of my son’s Logan Custom “Logo” Thinline.

Here are some pics of the custom Tele I recently acquired in a trade. Notice the neck is in three sections. I've never seen construction like this before. If anyone has any information, I'd appreciate it. The guy I got this from stated that the person that put this together did this on purpose. Other than a neck repair, I can't figure out why. As I said in my previous message, the guitar plays and sounds perfect, so I'm very happy with it.

Hey, Paul (gvonpaul), in this Guitar clubs section of the TDPRI there is a "Butterscotch blackguard club" started about a week ago by TDPRI member olaftheholy (from the Netherlands). In his OP (original post) he said
