after making all these changes (for fun), the only mod i'd keep would be the nocaster bridge pup.

a lot.
-standard nocaster bridge pickup. awesome. probably better than the 10k nocaster in there now, but i'll keep the 10k because i have another axe w/ a standard nocaster -10k cunetto nocaster. also awesome. growly, punchy, and not sparkly. the keef tone. -don mare super sport bridge. not my cup of tea. it sounded thin with my setup. sent it back and had don wind me . . . -don mare stelly neck. this is more what i hoped a don mare pickup would be. this pickup sounds a bit muddy on my twin reverb, but it sounds absolutely stellar through my 6g2 princeton. full, slightly glassy, stratty. -gold fender 52 bridge plate. the one that came on it was bent other stuff's just cosmetic. been through the pickguards seen above. still not sure which one i like best. used to have glendale's grip-o-matics, swapped them for his broadcasters. beautiful like fine jewelry, but ultimately silly. wouldn't spend that money again. ultimately, if i could have it back stock, i'd just switch the bridge pickup to a nocaster and be done. this guitar taught me that hype is just that. i'm not a supporter of boutique anything these days. i feel fender has superior offerings all the way across the board, from amp to guitar. this is just IMO, of course.

2 quick questions:
1. There are no Texas Highway Ones where I live for me to try but I did play a Road Worn Telecaster. The specs on Fender's website list both guitars as having 6105 fretwire. So that means they're both exactly the same dimensions, right? Sometimes, you just don't know with Fender's specs. 2. I also did see and play a regular Highway One. The blonde one. Kind of...pinkish, though. Any easy way to change that? I've heard good things about Mohawk/Behlen aerosol cans for necks. Would something like that work on the body? |

I certainly did not get mine to "mod" it. I can't imagine changing anything but the strings. Well, okay ...maybe compensated saddles ...or maybe test out an aluminum EA saddle.

Sorry to bump this thread. I know Fender says on its site:
"Highway One instruments are built to absord sweat, hot lights, spilles drinks and smokey haze in clubs, and being thrown in the back of a van or car night after night while still sounding and looking great. The more beat up it gets, in fact, the more a badge of honor it becomes." Mine is 'breaking thru' now.. |

Hi All,
Well I'm getting ready to join the HW 1 Texas Club, I have a couple of teles and I love them both. One has the 7.25 neck radius and the other has the 9.5, I have found a tele with the 12 radius neck. The Texas HW1!! I'm going to make a decision today. I'll keep you all posted. later, Nic

I'd love to have mine back. Best Tele I ever had.
I needed a thinline at the time so traded it for a very nice Ibanez. It was a good trade as the Ibanez is terrific but I do miss my TT. IMHO it is the perfect compliment for someone that has an EJ strat. Same radius and similar neck profile (on mine anyway) made for a nice duo. Mine had black '52RI guard and Glendale bridge and saddles.

I've had my HW1 Texas Tele for a few weeks now. The stock pickups were quite good but I was going for a more vintage tele sound to go with the vintage look. So I tried Texas Special Tele pickups for a week. Great sounding pickups. But the urge to put a set of Nocasters overcame me and that's what's in it now. I worked for like a week adjusting them to the best height and---Wow. It just sounds better and better each time I play it. If fact, I can't resist picking it up to play all the time. Great guitar. I swapped out the white guard for a '52 RI guard. My only QC gripe is that the nut work isn't top notch--string slots cut too deep. I think a proper nut often adds alot to Fenders anyway so I can fix that. Ogtherwise, it's one of the best Fenders being produced right now. Great finish. Great neck feel. Very resonant. Sound keeps blooming as it gets played more and more. Sweet. Oh, and it's cheap.

Photo of my HWY 1 Texas Nocaster
Here is the Highway 1 Texas Telecaster I described in the previous post. Weighs in at 7 lbs. 4 oz. It sounds unreal. It's actually quite breathtaking....

May be my favorite all-around Tele model....especially of the last several years. I've owned 2.5 of them. The 0.5 one was a parts-Tele that had the HWYTX neck & hardware. The only fault with them is the stock pickups IMO.
stock except for the Harmonic Design pups & Glendale saddles ![]() and with a Vintage Vibe CC pickup & Andy Summers brass bridge ![]() and the "0.5" - HWY Texas Neck & hardware....52 RI body, Fralin Blues Specials ![]() Ufortunately they all have gone on to other homes....I really wish I had the Blonde back.

I have GASSIN for a blond 1. Looking for a TELE i can play some slide on. I figure with neck it should be much easier. I went looking for 1 today but no luck G/C had only 1 highway 1 and it wasn't a Texan.
