I tried staring at the different colors, but it didn't matter. I found out that resistance was futile....I even had a friend try some Jedi mind tricks on me but nothing could stop the natural order in the universe.

Thought I would weigh in to add another guitar to the registry. I just received a Honey Blonde GE, serial number SZ6189863 (headstock number, nothing on neck plate other than impressed artist signature), a bit earlier than any other serial number you have found, it seems. Neck and body both dated Dec 2006. Guitar is not as light as some of y'all's - my scale might not be very accurate, but I get 8 lbs. 1 oz. - even if the scale is not quite right and reading too heavy, it is not a particularly light guitar in any case. But, it is killer! Very nice low action and terrific playability. Precise and articulate, but with great depth of tone. Easily the best non-Custom Shop Tele I have encountered (I've played a few CS Nocasters that I really liked, among others). Hats off to G.E. and to Fender for this one...

Got my GE honey blonde yesterday. SN SZ6189846 Is this an earlier number?
I am so glad I purchased it! I was worried about the neck size however, it is perfect for me. I think this guitar will make it easier to sell some of my tele's. |

These were guitars that were just on Ebay. The Dakota Red didn't sell and the Honey Blonde went for $1200 BIN.

I saw Moonalice last night at Skippers. Before the show, G.E. was having dinner several tables over from us.
Very cool guy. Like his tone and style. Great show. If they are going to your town, check 'em out! Thanks for the heads up, doster. |

I hope they come east, very fun band. Check out their web site, they post many of their shows for free download. I like them too, because they are in it for the music and love of playing.

Apologies for my lack of presence on this thread of late!
THat ebay link was not mine, I was in a tight spot to pay off my what has (over the last couple months) quickly become my new number one.... still a Fender but a Tele she is not. Just a plain Jane Strat Deluxe. Decision time came, and I guess I've been a Strat man all along? heh heh, first good USA guitar was one just like the Deluxe I got, and this new one's great too. i know i know, after all my hootin' and hollerin' about the GE model (it's still an AMAZING guitar) I go and do this, but well.... no apologies here, just felt like a better fit to me. I will keep the thread going though, adding new serials now and deleting mine! And yes tele54, it can be safely assumed you got an early one, congrats! |

Won't let me edit the front page anymore, so here's an updated list:
Known G.E. Smith Serial Numbers ZOVANOU: SZ6190218, Honey Blonde, early model with headstock serial: neck date of Dec. 2006 Mike_Eskimo: SZ6190220, Honey Blonde, early model with headstock serial milocj: SZ6190221, Honey Blonde, early model with headstock serial Capn Rory: SZ6190236, Honey Blonde, early model with headstock serial tele54: SZ6189846, Honey Blonde, early model with headstock serial AsYouSaid: SV6189851, Honey Blonde, early model with headstock serial AsYouSaid: SZ6189863, Honey Blonde, early model with headstock serial (First run of G.E. Smith models seem to be numbered, as best I can guess from our known serial numbers, from 01-40, identifiable by the last two digits in the headstock serial, ie- SZ61902xx. They are late 2006 models, possibly running into early 2007. No Dakota Red examples have been confirmed here with the headstock serial number. After roughly 40 units, serial numbers continue numerically, but switch location to the neckplate with no serial on the headstock, and adopt the SV0000xxx numbering system, listed below.) Oddly, tele54 and AsYouSaid's guitars seem to be two exceptions to this assumed 'rule'... silly Fender! Telehackster: SV000044, Honey Blonde MickM: SV000065, Honey Blonde; soon to be refinished in Sparkle Blue. stevehuff69: SV000069, Honey Blonde rumblejett: SV000131, Dakota Red MarkW: SV000144, Dakota Red johnnytronics: SV000163, Dakota Red Thinliner: SV000173, Honey Blonde ??????: SV000246, Dakota Red, reversed control plate nedray: SV000253, Dakota Red SWEETWATER-MUSIC: SV000260, Honey Blonde Cuco: SV000285, Black Rotting: SV000295, Black Last edited by 2tone60thAsh; February 25th, 2009 at 08:10 PM.. |

Second GE for me is another Honey Blonde, mentioned earlier (it was one of the two on eBay above). Headstock serial number, no serial number on neckplate (only G.E.'s imprinted 'signature') - number is SV6189851. Was shipped to me with a tweed case instead of the brown Tolex - have no idea as of yet whether that was the case Fender originally shipped it in or not (863 came in the brown Tolex case). I haven't had time to remove the neck to check the date on it - I assume it will be another late '06, probably Dec. Will post back when I do so...

If you get time before your GE arrives read the entire thread. I think you're the 3rd member to own this one. I spoke to Mellecaster when he owned it and I think he wired it with the old "blend" circuit but I wouldn't consider that an issue and it's easily changed if you want tne std Tele wiring. No issues that I heard of. I think it's changed hands due to guys checking out a new model or passing their "GAS" so to speak" |

Was a great player when I sold it to MusicGoRound in Cockeysville, MD a couple weeks ago.
Had a few paint chips on the body, some fingerboard smudges, and a cig burn on the headstock (all of which are my doing as a result of it being played out). Had it re-wired with reverse controls, but it does still have that blend circuit in it. I'm not the seller though, so I'm not making you any promises. |

Thanks for the info! It is a nice guitar and I don't smoke so the headstock is safe. I may eventually change the the blend circuit. Definately a different sound that may take awhile to get used too.

Great sound with the blend, doesn't take too long to get used to... you'll dig it!
To each his own of course! Mellechamp is a great luthier and kept the Tele immaculate, so you can blame (thank?) me for your discounted GE snag! (sorry about the cig... |
