Yea, SVOOOO67. I love this guitar already. It does seem a bit harder to do bends but it could be due to the strings which are 10's and my Am Deluxe are 9's. The set up is pretty amazing for an out of box guitar. It also was perfectly IN TUNE out of the case. My wife is ready to kill me for buying an Am Deluxe and now returning it. She is a bit mad as I will lose my shipping costs and have to ship it back, but its worth a few hours of the evil eye. To those who also took advantage of the MF deal...my fender box was put inside a larger box so it was double boxed, but when I pulled out the original box it was already opened and re-tapes shut with a note on it that said "Case Replace" - I thought GREAT! A used one! BUT it was/is brand spanking factory fresh new.
As for the pickups, the bridge PU sounds MUCH nicer than the one in the Am Deluxe. Fuller and sweeter. The Neck PU is a bit brighter/thinner than the one in the Am Deluxe. I'll be doing a youtube mini review of it tomorrow as there is practically nothing on this guitar online in regards to demos, etc (except the incredible GE smith video). |

Hey guys...been playing this GE most of the day and its so nice. I love it. I have to correct my serial# though, its 69, not 67. Not sure why I wrote 67 yesterday, but when playing today I looked it over good and noticed it was #69, which is ultra cool cause thats the year of my birth!
I also put it through its paces with a distortion pedal at high volume and it sounded SOOOOO good. No feedback, no odd noises, just sweet OD tone. I could not find ONE flaw on this guitar but am thinking of putting 9's on it as I find 9's much easier for me to play. I will have a youtube vid up tomorrow for sure!! |

I've got a set of .010 D'Addario Nickel strings on mine and they feel lighter most of the other .010s I've used. I've been sticking with those on the GE even though I usually like .0095s.
Hopefully that next Deluxe Amp will be in like new condition and you can keep the pair. I love my GE through my 5E3 clone. |

got my GE running through a Custom Vibrolux Reverb, sounds killer!
milocj- i find my GE to be the opposite, I usually like no thinner than 11-48's, yet 10s feel as stiff as my usual 11's when bending (which i do a lot of) so I stick with them. |

Nice, Cap'n! I'll update the numbers, and at least record the one at SweetWater!
Makes me wonder what the new black finish's serials are.... so far SweetWater's 260 is highest serial, and it isn't that far off of my 246, and mine was made in June/July of 2007. interesting stuff! |

Here's some Nitty Gritty on 2Tone's G.E. from an older post, where Jack Wells had asked how the Pup was mounted, and if it had a deeper rout than standard (and it does).....Enjoy

Yea but MF sent me out a brand new one today, factory sealed to replace this one with. The back of this one has 3 cracks in the wood, the bottom has a large crack and the front (behind the guitar) is dented. BUT its going back as soon as the new one arrives. Until then, Ill play it and get used to it! Thanks!

Yippee!
UPS just came by and gave birth to a 7.8 lb. Dakota Red beauty! Serial # on back of engraved neck plate is SV0000163. Took me less than 5 minutes to determine that this is the BEST Tele I've ever played, including '52 Reissue and '52 Hot Rod. Neck is fat baby! I think it must contribute to the sonic qualities. Plugged into my Gibson GA-5 it time travels back to the early days of twang!

Very cool! I bet that red IS a beauty! How was the action set up on yours? Mine was very low but I like it low, still had no buzz at all.
I wish I could afford one of each color! Well, I could if I settled for a $100 amp! Hmmmm.... |

Perfect set up.....for me anyway......kind of in the middle, between low and high. I don't like too low. Strings can "breathe" a little more up higher. I wanted to post some pics. Maybe later. Thing is, this guitar feels very "alive", very resonant.

Should have paid for the shipping.
Ordered it on Monday and just got the tracking # but it's still not in UPS's system. I'm spoiled by Elderly. I did give them a chance to match MF but they said they'd still be $100+ over MF's price. They actually thanked me for giving them the chance to match it ! |

Oh, and I'm guessing you mean SV000163, not SV0000163? If you have 4 zeros and the 163 at the end, awesome goofup by Fender! I feel the same way, not too high, not too low. JUUUUST right. |

Looks sweet!
Looks good! Gotta love these cases with the orange interior also! Mine didn't come with the flag sticker or pick-guard plastic though and my box was opened and resealed. They may have sent me a return but its perfect so I don't care.
Was playing it more this evening with my PRRI and I restrung it with some ernie ball 9's I had. The strings that were on it looked OLD and after changing the strings, it sounds even better. The sustain is crazy for a tele. Made a new vid with the PRRI and will upload it tonight. Mike, let us know when yours arrives with the details. Im curious how far your # is from mine as my # seems kind of like an early one (#69). Thanks! |

Cool stuff. More GE fans and the Youtube clip.
So whatcha' think? Is the color of the Blond GE closer to blackguard or whiteguard blond? ![]() ![]() I also had forgotten that I made my first ever recording (to cassette, even) when I built my 5E3 clone and I used my GE Smith for it. I had posted this quite awhile back under the amps section but it will give some more ideas of what the guitar and/or a 5E3 can do. The playing isn't great and I had to do a bit of splicing but it may help somebody. The first half is the GE played through a homebuilt Revibe Unit into the 5E3 Clone, and the second half is jut the GE into the amp. Any added distortion near the end is tweaking of guitar and amp knobs. It's kind of long but you should be able to drag the cursor to the end http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6465945 |

It's going to be a long while, but I'll be in the club someday. For now I'm living vicariously through you guys and listening to GE.

Cool posts everyone, and MiloCJ, I like the white guard on the blonde! Mellecaster gave me the option of blackguard or white when I got his GE, and I just had to keep it white. But mine does have a reversed control plate which Melle' also did for me, because I kept hitting the damn switch since I kinda whack the strings hard.
And Doster, it's not much, but here's an example of the bridge position tone control. goes from spanky tele to almost strat-like jangle by blending in with the neck. I keep it on the bridge spot 90% of the time because with the blend control all the way down, it's basically like full-on neck, but just a hint of sparkle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxsdXTvjfYk Camera-phone video, so forgive the quality but the idea behind the sound's there! |

Ok guys, here is a more involved video of my GE playing clean and distorted through a PRRI - remember, I only have 4 months, 1 week playing time under my belt so go easy! Anyway, I think the combo of the PRRI and GE were made for each other!
