Mine never looks yellow. Either cream in bright light, or it has a very light shade of "key lime pie".
I dig it. Also reminds me of a hint of seafoam green. Maybe someone put a few drops of seafoam in the finish bucket? I played with the white balance on my cam until it showed what I see in the pic. This is under normal room light: ![]() And this is the same guitar, with more sunlight, and before I knew I had a white balance adjustment on my cam: ![]() You can still see a hint of green in the bottom pic, but again, it does change with the light. All those that I've seen in shops locally are like mine. It's a later serial number CGS0923027 (yes, I've taken the sticker off) |

Mine is exactly like that in my room light, but natural light makes it look yellower. Very strange. Mine is a pretty early serial number, my friend at the shop was keeping it tucked away in the corner, he liked picking it up and playing it every day. Mine is an early 08, from what I gather.
I've just ordered a thin 1-ply pickguard (black) and a .047 PIO cap! I'm excited to throw the cap in it, already I use the tone knob more often than in any other guitar I've owned. It's nice when something works! |

Just thought I'd post up a pic or two of how my CV50s compares in colour to the MIM 50s Classic colour, and just to demonstrate how yellow the colour is on some of the CV50s.
![]() ![]() I'm getting used to the yellowish tone of this guitar, I do think that the yellower ones look better with white guards though. |

Oh how beautiful grain, lucky you :) Mine has a lot thicker coat of paint and the colour isn't as pleasing. Congrats on your new baby :)

Well, as of today, I am officially a member. I was afraid to talk about it because I got it used on a Buy it Now on the dreaded auction site and the seller looked slightly dubious. (only 14 feedbacks but all of them positive) It arrived today with an unexpected bonus gig bag and it is in excellent condition. Yes it is slightly heavier than I am used to, but it is cosmetically flawless. (was kind of secretly hoping for a little relic vibe, but I believe this is one guitar that would not be easy to "road wear")
If anybody has gone into their new one, please tell me if the cavities were painted with shielding paint. Mine is and there is a piece of metal shielding on the inside of the pickguard as well. If mine is after market shielded, I consider that a bonus. It is dead quiet and sounds fantastic. All I had to do was tweak the pickup heights to my taste and away I go. I will be putting 11s on it and checking the intonation, but aside from that, I see no need to do anything else. I am very stoked!

I just finished what should be my only mods to my CV50 for a while! I got a Mojo Vitamin T cap to replace the dinky little cap in there, got an electrosocket w/ switchcraft jack, and a thin 1 ply guard. The guard looks amazing! The stock Squier one, after comparing it to the aftermarket one, seems to be a bit faded...like a frosty black, if that's possible. The new one is sharp looking. The cap is also very, very cool...definitely adds a bit more vintage vibe to the stock PUPs. I don't know that I needed the electrosocket, but I also couldn't see the harm, so I installed it anyways (not perfectly...just the slightest bit too far one way :( ).
When I roll the tone completely off, the volume cuts out on both PUPs. Weird, because I copied the original wiring exactly. Ah well...something to figure out later. Also, I broke a string, and I was already looking at the Callaham saddles. This is what happens when you go into a store expecting to drop $900 and only spend $340. GAS gets replaced by the modding bug. |

Yeah, demo from my old band. Real bass and drums. I keep re-recording the guitars because it has a clean, a lead line and dirty rhythm. If you know me at all I like some dirt with my cleans. Thanks for listening!

I joined the club about 1 month ago, & I must say its everything I want or expect in a tele. I've been gigging for about 30 years, & honestly this was a gig worthy guit right off the rack (actually picked it up on the way to a gig, & played it all night).
Raised the neck PU a bit, "satinized" the back of the neck (400 wet/dry sandpaper), & put on a strat switch tip, good to go. Oh, 9-46 gauge GHS Boomers. |

I just got the DiMarzio Twang King neck pickup for it. Haven't installed it yet, but it will a cheap mod and I hope that it'll fix the one thing that I don't yet love about my CV.

Just joined the club today (my first Tele as well!). Very glad I found this forum and got this version instead of something else, thanks to all of you for the wealth of info.
Serial Number: CGS1011770 Born: 10-09-13 Weight: 7.4 Lbs (weighed it twice to be sure!) Last edited by BetaMO; November 19th, 2010 at 03:14 PM. |

Neck pickup cover
It seems to be well established that the CV50 Telecaster pickups are, apart from the connecting leads, pretty much the same as the Tonerider Hot Classics, with the possible exception that the neck pickup cover on the CV50 is made of brass rather than nickel silver as with the Tonerider.
Can anyone confirm definitively whether or not this is indeed the case? I've bought a couple of nickel silver covers from Allparts UK, but I don't want to mess about with the CV50 if it's going to make little or no difference.

I think the CV Telecasters are an ideal choice for a first electric guitar and in time should serve you well right up to eventual gig level when your playing has progressed sufficiently.

And there it was, waiting for me when I came home from work...
![]() Guess I'm not the only one apreciating this beautiful new guitar. Weight is 3.4kg, 7.5lb, and the s/n is CGS1003710. QCcard says it's from 100510, is this the 5th of Oktober or the 10th of May? Only thing 'wrong' with it is it was shipped in a Yamaha box so no allen keys in here. |

Howdy CV players!
Just bought mint second hand CV Tele. Great fit, finish and weight. The neck is very nice handfull. I might replace the neck pickup - bridge PU sounds nice.

That was a very nice little audio clip that you now seem to have removed from your post. Excellent phrasing and tone - more, please!

Interesting that you've chosen to lower the bridge PU - I went the other way and raised the neck one (not quite as easy as it should be - see earlier post). Great playing - you swing, friend!

Yes, that's exactly how I did it. I do have some regular pickup springs but the way the body is routed means that they aren't quite long enough. However, the ball-point pen springs work perfectly.

I just got my CV 50's tele from Guitar Center over the weekend. I modded it immediately. One of my buddies didn't like the rosewood neck on his CV Tele Custom so he traded me for a Mexican Tele maple neck I had laying around. I put the rosewood neck on my CV to give it warmer and less twangy sound. I added a Fender tortoiseshell pickguard and a Fender Tele Bridge Cover. The addition of a 22k Orange Drop cap also insured that "less highs" would be "rolled off" on the tone control, which I thought that may be best also because of the addition of the rosewood neck I added. Since these pics I've also added a 4-way switch for series pickup option and also relocated the switch to the bottom instead of the normal top position. I had issues with the control cavity shielding paint grounding out my switch lugs because the lugs were touching the bottom of the control plate cavity. I lined the bottom and sides of the control plate cavity with masking tape and the grounding problem is gone now. Be sure to file down both of the sides of the 4-way switch "lever" in order to insure the 1st and 4th positions on the switch engage properly. If you don't you may run into problems with your pickups not switching on because the lever wont fully engage in those positions (top and bottom). Takes about 10 minutes but worth it. However simple these mods were I feel they were worth it. I don't wan't to change the pickups because I still want that vintage 50's sound. Changing the pickups would totally change the sound of the guitar too much for me therefore eliminating the reason to call it a "50's" Tele. I'll save that type of mod for a Standard or American Tele project. I'll post my progress and changes. Cheers folks!!

dshorter: lovely. Just lovely. I've been lusting after a rosewood fingerboard myself. Am I correct that it should be just a direct drop-in replacement for the existing neck? I might try to find someone that would swap a CVC neck with my CV.

Hi guys,
Hopefully you can give me some feedback on this asap, I hoping to buy one of these by the end of the week but there's only one of each left in the shop! Can you guys tell me the difference between the regular Classic Vibe Tele and the Sunburst Classic Vibe Custom model please? Any feedback would be much appreciated! |

I have one of the former type and love it, while there's a lot of praise here for the custom model too. If they're both in the same shop (or even in two different ones) why not try them both and see which one you prefer?

Do a search of this forum, theres loads of info about the differences between the two. As well as this thread in Owners Club there is also another one about 2010 Classic Vibes.
They are two quite different guitars. In short, the CV50s is like the ones in this thread, the CV60s Custom has a sunburst double bound body, rosewood board neck, different pickups and doesnt have a pine body. Also dont forget that there is also a Classic Vibe Thinline too, which I have yet to play, but folk on here also seem to love. The TDPRI Search Function is your friend, my friend |
