two options are given (to enter a URL of an image which exists on the internet or to upload an image from your computer) i first tried to take a photo of my guitars and scale it down to approximately 90x70 pixels (this is as large as it could be within the maximum size requirements) this did not work-- a message saying "Unable to Save image" appeared i next located an existing avatar on the internet measuring 100x100 pixels i made sure the URL was indeed for the correct file type etc (all URL's i tried ended in "jpg" or "gif") yet i was still unable to upload the desired avatar hope thats "specific" enough

Do I understand that you tried to "upload an avatar using the "edit signature" link within the user control panel"??
That's what your post said. Why did you not try to upload the Avatar with the "Edit Avatar" section of the UserCP? You said that you "first tried to take a photo of my guitars and scale it down to approximately 90x70 pixels (this is as large as it could be within the maximum size requirements)". There can be two problems. First, the maximum size is 80 px by 80 px so right there your Avatar was too large. Second, you must make sure the avatar is less than 20,000 bytes. Obviously, the 100 by 100 px Avatar would error out as well. Make an Avatar under 20,000 bytes that is no larger than 80 px by 80 px that you upload in your UserCP with the "Edit Avatar" section of the CP and you should have no problems. Paul Green |

the custom avatar choice did not work also this is an exact quote from the User control panel: "Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 500 by 100 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller). " someone like myself who is not familiar with the INs and OUTs of forum us might be under the impression that "90 x 70" would be the proper size within the "500 x 100" guidelines

"Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 80 by 80 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller)." Click on UserCP, then click on "Edit Avatar" then Scroll down PAST the "stock" avatars and you'll see the place to enter the path to your custom avatar. You'll also see the notice about sizing there as well. You can only upload your avatar from the Edit Avatar function in the UserCP. You can't use the Custom Image function for your Avatar they are separate things. I believe that your problem is that you aren't scrolling down past the stock avatars. It should look like this: |
