Old Classifieds

Is there anyway to make old ads in the classifieds time out... I see an ad for an amp that was sold 8 months ago and at first I'm excited, then know it has been gone a long time... any chance that those can disappear so that only current ads show?

It is most troublesome in the main pages where the ad pictures flash by....

I clean out the expired ad queue whenever I remember to do it. It is a manual process. I cleaned out ads last week and again yesterday. Are there some old ones that are somehow escaping this process? If so I am not aware of them.

When ever someone makes me aware of some I go in and manually remove them. It seems that some have trouble being removed.

It's not a huge deal at all Paul, and I sure hate the idea of you having to do it manually especially if you have to hunt it up. I've seen on other forums where the seller requests that the thread be 'closed up' upon conclusion of the ad... that might make it easier. Maybe a flag to signify that something is sold?

The person that placed the ad has two choices: click the "Sold it" button or click the "delete ad" button.

When the time limit on an ad expires, I can clear them, more or less in bulk, with an admin function. But that is not automatic and I have to remember to go in and do the clearing. It takes longer than it sounds.

Supposedly, when a seller marks an ad as sold it puts a red SOLD on the ad and then when I bulk clear "expired ads" it is supposed to remove SOLD ads too. I've seen some SOLD ads that are not cleared by this process, however. But I don't know why.

The system seems less than perfect -- plus I paid good money for the software.

As I said, just let me know of any lingering ads that are sold and I'll manually delete them.

Thanks
Paul Green

This problem has been going on for awhile. I've gone in and modified the templates so that no one can place an ad for longer than 30 days. The stock program allows people to select "no expiration" as one of the options. Not any more. 30 days for a free ad is plenty.
