I just posted to a thread which included a quote. There were five smilies included in the post and I had to remove one of them due to a limit of four.

Have the smilies always been considered an image or is this something new, or just a fluke?

Smilies are considered to be images on all forums I frequent. Most have a limit, usually 4 images per post
