How to Post Photos on the TDPRI

First, you must have a photo that is the correct format. A GIF or JPG (JPEG on a MAC) file is required.

Next you need a place to host your photo. You can use the TDPRI's TelePhoto Gallery, Photobucket, or some other OPEN photo host. Yahoo and other photo hosts that require you to log in to see the photos will not work.

Next you need the URL of the PHOTO... not the page it is located on. A photo URL will always contain a file with a .jpg or .gif extension. If it has a .htm or .html extension that's a page not a photo file.

You can get the photo URL many places. A "right click" on a photo on a web page will bring up a menu on PC. Click on the "properties" in that menu and at the bottom you should see a "location" such as this:

Code:
http://www.website.com/myphoto.jpg
Once you have a URL simply insert this into your TDPRI post as you are composing it. Put a "return" between your photo and the words you are typing or they'll run together.

After you insert this photo URL in your post, highlight the entire URL with your mouse and click on the IMG button in the BBCODE list above the box where you type your post.

It's a good idea to "Preview" your post before you "Submit" it to see if the photo shows up.

Here is an inserted photo:

And here is the coding that inserted it into this post:

Code:
[img]http://www.tdpri.com/gifs/69Tele.jpg[/img]
Give it a try. Right click on the photo, then click on "properties" and see the location. It's the same as the coding that I posted above.

That's all there is too it. Remember if you do everything as I've illustrated your photo will show up. If it doesn't then you are probably using the wrong kind of file, the wrong URL or, most likely, the wrong photo host.

One last thing. Size of the photo. Many digital cameras these days will take a photo 2000 pixels wide by 2000 pixels tall. This is a HUGE photo when posted in a website. It's 2 or 3 times the size of your screen. So, insure that your photo is the right size for the page. We prefer 500 wide and any height. But as long as it's reasonable 600 by 600 won't be too big a problem. Use a photo editing program to reduce the size if your photo is too big, BEFORE uploading it to your photo host.

Good Luck

Photobucket.com already has the [IMG] codes all you need to do is highlight and copies it automatically and they you just have to paste it in the message you replaying to.

That means you are trying to upload a gigantic photo. You need to make them small for use on the site. There is no need to upload some huge picture.

Edit your photos. 640 pixels wide is plenty wide. Under 75K is more than enough bytes.
Your camera can make a photo 2,800 pixels wide and 300k bytes in size but that doesn't make it suitable for posting on a website.

If the error is connection was reset then you know your photo is too large.

It is a square with a yellow background and an image of mountains.

Just put your mouse over all the icons you see and wait until a description pops up.

Ok just uploaded 6 pics using the upload option in the message posting.
However these pics get uploaded to the TDPRi server I assume. How much of a strain on the server ressources is this???
I dont have a webservice for uploding photos, I have webspace with my provider but never got around to figuring it out. Any good free website for uploading?
I dont post mmany pics, but i can make an effort not to strain TDPRI's ressources

This is how I upload photos as well. I didn't realize it could be a strain on the resources here at TDPRI. If so, I am sorry Paul. Whats the verdict?

Yes, this and a thousand other things are a strain on the server. But that's just the way it is. Nothing that I've asked people to stop doing and if it were too big a problem I'd disable this feature.

I've posted photos and also links from Photobucket, but if I try to re-post in another topic I get a message saying that the photo has already been posted. What's the secret to using the same photo twice ? Thanx in advance.

You can't attach photos with the same name. But you can embed the photo's URL as many times as you with in IMG BBCODE tags.

Yes, just find the original that you uploaded and copy its link.

To do this, follow the link in the message telling you that you've already uploaded that file, or go to "User CP" and click on "attachments" under "miscellaneous" and look for it there.

Once you figure out how to do that it's a breeze, and you can control how it displays in your subsequent posts even better than in the first post where you uploaded it.

I recently tried unknowingly to attach a file a second time, and even though I had renamed the file on my system, the TDPRI software recognized it as the same file.

I have 2 photos in my yahoo mail that I want to add (edit) to my classified ad. For some reason when I saved them, they went to music, and I can't figure out how to get them into my classified ad. (I'm new to this picture stuff and had to have someone take the picture ,and e-mail it to me).

I have no idea what "they went to music" means?

I can't even post a profile pic

I constantly get a upload failed message when I try to post a profile pic. Tech support could not tell me why so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know. I thought it was Mac conflict but in trying to upload on a PC I still get the same message. It is the right size and I have formatted it with any number of different file formats jpg, jpeg, tiff, pdf, bmp and nothing.

OK. I've done everything the administrator suggested, and my photos still don't show up.
1. Acquired a proper resolution jpeg of my guit
2. Saved it to the TelePhoto gallery, vintage Telecasters
3. Typed in first line of my reply...
4. Hit Return, pasted URL of photo into reply box...
5. Highlighted entire image URL...
6. Clicked on yellow mountain icon...
7. Previewed...
8. STILL NO PHOTO SHOWING UP??
What am I doing wrong? I've got to be missing a step somewhere, or is this possibly a MAC issue?
Thanks!!! in advance for the help.

well, just hit the yellow button first and a tiny window shows up, that's where you paste or type the pic's url.

1. okay
2. okay
3. okay

(Try this alternative to finish the sequence...)

4. click on yellow mountain icon
5. paste url of photo into the input field of the popup box

Make sure only a single and complete url, ending with a valid graphics image filename, is in that input field. When I get this popup box it already has "http://" filled in, and the url I'm pasting in also has that in the string.

An example proper and complete url from my photo gallery is:

Code:
http://www.tdpri.com/telephoto/data/549/medium/98SqStd1.jpg
6. Click OK on the popup box.
7. Preview and confirm it works.
8. carry on with whatever else you want to do with your post.

Here's the results of using my example my example url this way:

You mean like this? I just went to your Gallery and copied the BBCODE link below your photo and pasted it in the thread. If you use a link with the BBCODE already in it you simply paste the entire URL. There is no clicking on the "yellow mountain icon" because you already have the BBCODE image tags you need in the link you copied from your Gallery.

Use the BBCODE Yellow Mountain icon only if all you have is a URL without [img] [/img] tags
