"Ignore" Function easier to find

Many members get in trouble because of something another member says. In fact, we see many members getting banned because of this.

Someone says something unkind or sarcastic and it makes another member mad. They respond with name calling and things escalate. A mod steps in to break up the fight and the person that got mad first feels he was provoked and in response to the mod he swears and calls the mod names. Boom, he's banned.

All of this can be avoided by simply ignoring the posters you don't like. That's what you do in real life. And, it's all you have to do here. But, unlike real life we have an "Ignore" function. Put another member on your ignore list and you'll not even see their posts any longer.

We've now made it easier to add people to your ignore list. Just click on their username in a post and you'll see a dropdown list of choices. "Add to Ignore List" is now one of the choices.

So, don't get mad, or get even or get banned. Just ignore the "fools" and you'll be a much happier poster.

PS. You can't ignore a mod or administrator.

That's a real limitation. I think it's better for folks with those roles to have a pair of user names -- one for official posts, one for personal posts.

I have to manually ignore. I hate the ignore list because if you use it and someone on your ignore list is posting in a thread it can make the thread hard to grasp since you are missing some of the context and missing what someone who is not on your ignore list is responding to. Putting folks on the ignore list for me was like taking meds to cure something that give you side effects that were as bad as the thing you were trying to cure. I wonder if other folks have felt the same way and just decided to give up on using the ignore function?

-k

ps. since i am on so many ignore lists probably no one will even read my query. haha.

I appreciate what you have done to minimise conflict or annoyance here.

The ignore function however is only half finished, I would prefer that the ignored person's post header(in the thread) and threads are made invisible, as currently only their post content is hidden.

At the moment it is like being at Christmas with family listening to an ipod, you don't hear them but you would rather not see them at all. (ha)

Can we please do this?

P.s I don't mind personal mod posts at all.

When I have used it, I agree with this FWIW

The ignore function, is for people that have difficulty debating or having a conversation where others have opinions contrary to theirs, and they can't handle that.
