How about a new digital forum/Question about recording software?

First of all, I finally found something I want to do with my tele, that there's actually NOT a forum for here at TDPRI. (Insert your own dirty joke here, but just don't post it.) No, record it. I got a free download of Audacity, which seems pretty cool. But I can't get it to playback while I'm recording a 2nd track. Example: I lay down a drum beat with an RP150 Digitech pedal, which has built in drum beats. I count out a 64 measure, sample size to try to work with. Then I try to record guitar. Can't get the drum beat to play while I am recording. In the options, it says something about needing 2 soundcards. Anybody know 1) whether I can even install a 2nd sound card on a Dell Inpsiron laptop? and 2) is there another free recording program that doesn't require 2 soundcards for you to hear playback at the same time that you record?

AND 2nd ORDER OF BUSINESS...
Don't you think there should be a section of TDPRI dedicated to recording techniques and digital computer type stuff, and its relationship to recording teles?

Go to Edit then preferences then recording. Check the first box Overdub. I also recommend you use the beta version for all the newest options, its a lot more stable than they imply. There is also a good Audacity forum and FAQ's. For more stuff on all types of audio recording go to audioforums.com.

You can add a plug in sound card in your PMCIA slot if you have one.

Try the "Recording in Progress" section here. You'll find it between the "Tips, Tabs, Theory and Technique" and the "Worship Service Players" sections.

Ah....No. That solves it. Don't need a new card now, I guess.
