RNC ads at the top of the page????

Hi,

Just noticed that TDPRI is running banner ads from the RNC trashing the Democratic candidate for VA governor. Does that count as political content? Since TDPRI is at least theoretically nonpolitical, it looks a little out of place. Looks like it's part of a rotation from Google ads. Is there any way to address that?

Thanks,
Ned

Politics is too divisive. It's like the Civil war. Brothers can end up killing brothers over it. This forum is the coolest place on the planet and I would hate to see it go to he11 over politcal cr@p. And it WOULD go there very quickly if you let that fire get started.

I, for one, would leave very quickly if that happened.

TDPRI has no control over google content> The ad you see in your house will not be the same as I see in mine

Understand TDPRI can't control what Google puts in their rotation--and I'm sure forum members in California aren't seeing Virginia political ads. But then chances are they're seeing other political ads. So what you do then is tell Google to either keep political ads out of their rotation or pull their ads. No doubt the revenue is important to TDPRI and I don't begrudge Paul the cashflow to support this effort, but you can't ask the membership to stay out of something that is presented as approved content (yes, an ad is approved content if it's in your publication). I'm a contributor as well, although probably not as lucrative as Google, and I was about to enter this year's drawing, but we'll see.

If this is true, then Google is violating their service agreement with us. And, only Google ads are running.

We have all political ads blocked.

I'll check into it.

Since I'm not in VA, I can't see them.

Can you get me the exact URL they go to? Click on one and post the link. I'll block it manually as well and complain to Google.

I keep getting that Amazon ad that flogs a Susan Boyle CD. 'Fess up, what forum member bought that CD? There must be a reason they keep assigning it to the TDPRI!

Hate to tell you this... but Amazon target YOU, not the website. That Susan Boyle CD is targeted to you no to the TDPRI.

That's the truth, I'm not making that up.

I found that Google introduced a new blocking structure and Politics wasn't selected to be blocked. In the old method it was. Anyway, it's blocked as a subject as of now. It will take a few hours for this to take place.

Also, only 5 categories of bad ads are available for blocking, but they will be expanding it to 8 in the next two weeks. We block about 200 individual ad URLs right now.

Here's the URL for the ad running on my screen http://deedsuncut.com/.

Looks like it actually might be blocked now because a blank white box comes up at some points in the rotation and I don't see that particular ad at the moment. Never did get the Susan Boyle one....

At any rate, appreciate the attention to this--sounds like it's a tough issue to stay on top of. Just proves the old adage, "for every system of restraint, there's an equally effective system of evasion." I've never found an exception to that rule.

Actually I think those ads are just listing top sellers. I believe I heard yesterday that the Susan Boyle CD is the number one pre-release order in Amazon history....
