I'd like to see a "Vintage Corner" at the TDPRI

I don't want to be or appear to be elitist here and I can assure you that I am not...I am a member of the Unnoficial Martin Guitar Forum and I enjoy that Forum as much as I have this one over the years...They have a "Vintage Corner" section there and it is pretty much the only section I check out, this is because my main interest in Martin guitars is the Vintage Guitars that are so sought after by pickers and collectors...I am the same with my Telecasters, I like the Custom Shop reissues as well, but it is the Vintage stuff that interests me...I am hoping to encourage a healthy discussion about introducing a section here where, if you want to talk about a particular Old Tele that you have or know of, which may need some opinions on restoration, value, originality, parts needed, opinions on an auction etc...If you post something like "show us your Squier Teles" or "Who is you favourite Player" or whatever, it would stay here, there is nothing wrong with these posts, although I do admit to finding some a bit repetitive...It would stop some of the arguments as well...EG whenever puts up a link to an auction to an original Blackguard the might like the idea of, there is the following exchange...A says "gee, if I won $50K, I'd have this"...B says, "No guitar is worth that money" C says "I dont like the look of that Decal placement and there is something wrong with the amount of wear on the body compared to the neck, D says "I prefer my CS relic reissue, they are the better than any of the originals, because they are worn out and over rated" E says " I am a player not a collector and I think my Squier is as good and costs a fraction of this one" ...It often turns into a bunfight!...It is clear that there are many here who are in possession of substantial Vintage Guitars and I am sure that if they came here to the Vintage Corner they could go about there discussions without having to wade through the "Show us your" posts, the "I just bought my first" posts, the "What do you think of this colour pickguard?" Posts...I repeat, there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with these posts.it is just that I am not personally into them...I would still come here to read some that I do find interesting, but I'd be checking out the Vintage Corner first...REPEAT, NOT TRYING TO RATTLE ANYONES CAGE HERE!

You're right Terry, there's nothing wrong with the banter you get on all forums, but it can get in the way of 'serious' discussions. On most forums they're room for both... a Vintage Corner might be a good idea, but would need to be strictly moderated to work.

Hey Terry, I'd settle for compulsory paragraphing, and a maximum sentence length in posts.

I think it is a good idea as well. But I would also like to see it open to more than just vintage Teles. I like checking out all vintage guitars, regardless of the make and model and I'll bet there are some real gems floating around out there.

I guess that works!

I have no problem with the concept of discussing all types of Vintage guitars...As long as it was with complusory paragraphing and with a maximum sentence length, although I may struggle myself with the latter!

Don't you then run the risk of splitting the Tel Dis Forum to:

Vintage Corner
Custom Shed
US and Proud
The Sushi Bar
Tequila and Tacos
Squier Shack
Handbuilt House
Fender Fjord

Posts about "Vintage" tend to labelled as such in the title. And if its in Vintage Corner, whats to stop the undesirables lusting after it in the way they do now! Are you going to password it?

See Strat-Talk, which has hoofed Squiers to their own corner. So instead of, like here, CS owners getting to discuss and comment on people's Squier aspirations...they're left to talk alone in dark huddles away from the Elite. (Was that over dramatic? )

Im with Mellecaster when a forum gets split up into too many areas people tend to ignore them.

We have been discussing Vintage Teles on the main Tele page here for the past 12 years and its worked fine. In fact for many years we didnt have any categories just discussed everything on the same page.

All people have to do is type in the right subject to draw attention to Vintage and the people who are interested will read it ones that arent wont simple.

Isn't more than 25 years old generally accepted as vintage

Too many sections already on here for my liking. Keep It Simple....maxim for life! Vintage Corner would still get "what colour pickguard", "what date stamp", etc., etc., etc., etc.....

I find it's really quite simple to bypass the comments you don't care for, or the threads you don't care for.....

IMO of course.

Old horse, already beaten.

This has been an on and off discussion here for the last 10 years. It's fine for you to discuss it again, if you wish.

PS. Paragraphs! +1

I don't know but it gives a whole new meaning to the song, "Big Iron."

What's to stop people from going into the vintage sub-section and typing the same things that you're complaining about right now?

Ok, maybe you'll weed out a few people, but there's still the potential for the kind of talk you're describing in any sub-section. I can absolutely understand what you're talking about, though.

However, I think it would cause more problems than it would solve. As was already said, what is to stop things from being broken down further. And you'll have people crying foul when they don't get their own section. Also, there's a chance that some people would come to think of that section as elitist, and that could create some bad feelings in the forum. It works fine in a Martin forum because you get a different vibe there. Martin's have always had a prestige about them that the Telecasters have not. Tele's are an every man's guitar and that's the kind of feeling that I think TDPRI likes to have - everyone is invited to the party, and there is no VIP room.

Personally, I wouldn't have a problem with it, but I can definitely see where it could cause some issues.

I'm not sure, but it sounds fun! Could you imagine, throwing soft baked goods at each other? There's no way anyone could get hurt!

Not unless you aim for the eye. That's just the kind of poor sportsmanship-like conduct I'm known for. I play dirty to win.

Plus, what a good story that would be. "I blinded a man with a pastry."

Well, for you, not the other guy.

Let's not forget that classic film "Bunfight at the O.K. Tearooms"

Hey all. I'm closing this. I use this forum for monitoring problems and so, when there is any other type of posting going on it messes me up by contacting me when a problem doesn't exist.

Thanks
