Problems with search function.
Since I joined the forum last spring I have run 3 build threads, 4 with the words "build" or "project" in the thread title or in the first post. None of them are found by the search engine when using the key words "build" or "project". Is there some sort of flag I should be applying to this kind of thread? Currently the only way I can find them is to pull up all my threads or to search on a keyword that no one else would have a reason to use but I happen to know exists.

Try setting the "Search by Keyword" to "Search Titles Only," enter your keyword, then enter "Ironwolf" where it says "Search by User Name." You'll isolate the threads pretty quickly. Hope it helps, CS

That's all well and good, it does work, but it does not explain why a simple search brings up one thread with a key word in the title, and not another.

Because you've only started 3 threads with either the word "project" or "build" in the title. And, because two of those three are from May of 2008 and the search engine only finds the first 500 posts with the words you're looking for. There are more than 500 threads with the words build or project in them since May of 2008. So, the search engine stops listing them before it gets to those two older ones of yours.
So, if you're going to look for something specific, especially something that uses very popular search terms, you have to limit the search as Chris S. has suggested otherwise you won't be successful. Unless you limit it to titles only it's going to find the first 500 threads out of half a million threads with the word build or project in at least one of the 1.5 million posts. |
