Desperately SLOW! Is it just me?

Over the last week or so, the forum seems to be grinding slowly to a halt.

I'm using Internet Explorer.

Even logging into the TDPRI takes much longer than usual, and if I try to open a thread, I invariably have to sit and watch the little green boxes slowly slide accross the bottom of my screen while I read the message "Waiting for: http:/etc. etc. etc."

When I've (finally) read a thread, if I click on the "Telecaster Discussion Forum" link at the top of the page to take me back to the threads list, I go through the same old wait again.

Opening the next thread? Same again...

Typing a reply and pressing the "Preview Post" button? Same again....

Is it just me? This is not just from one terminal - I'm getting the same slow response at work, at home, and at Cortijo Fatman over in Spain.....

The BBC have just done a broadband test you can log onto to check your local speed.The whole UK internet is getting slower by the day .

I think it is just you FMSM. I have no other complaints and it's working great or me. You are probably closer to the server than I am. It's in Quebec Canada.

I just did the test. It returned 1.5 mbps. Is that normal, fast or slow?

FMSM have you installed any "internet security" software? There is some out there that really bogs down web surfing at sites like the TDPRI that are heavily "session cookie" based.

Even the 8.0 version of AVG anti-virus added a web site "checker" that bogged things down on my system until I turned that off.

In general, the TDPRI is recognized as pretty quick. We did have some server problems yesterday and the site slowed to a bog and then died. But that hasn't happened but once in the past 3 or 4 months.

If it was a problem outside of your system then I'd be getting a lot of complaints and having the same problems as everyone else.

It's got to be a problem with something on your computer. 8,000 people come here every single day-- most 3 or 4 times a day. If it was a generalized problem I would have hundreds of complaints. I don't have any anecdotal reports from any one except the odd one or two.

You are running something on your system that is causing the halts. Unfortunately, only you know what you are running.

Our server in Quebec is on a Tier one pipe and isn't slow in Oregon or Oceania. Not bragging, just saying it's not the distance. I'm 1,800 miles from Quebec and work on this site and others on the server for countless hours every day. If it was slow due to distance I'd have problems too.

Sound to me like you need to do disk defragment and Scan disk on your computer. Follow by clearing your browser history, and cache that might speed thing up a bit.

The forum is fast enough on my end.

My connection changes between 0.5mbps - 5mbps, depending upon what time I use the net. (Capped connection)

One thing to consider is your provider and type of service. Cable provided service can slow down if there are a lot of people in your neighborhood subscribed and lots of them are logging on at the same time. I know there seem to be times when ours slows down.

Also, our cable provider is limiting bandwidth by providing different speeds for different costs.

7.30PM in the UK and my TDPRI is as if it is running in treacle !, i am using Firefox and then tried Safari on my Mac but to no avail.

My 'net connection is sound and fine with other web sites.

i'm in N.Central Michigan....i waited over a minute for this thread to open just now....
before the upgrade, pages here loaded in a snap, now ever thread i've clicked on is noticeably s l o w e r.....
There have been no changes to my computers/security software/settings, and my ping times for other sites are unchanged...

i sent out a couple of pm messages just before the problems yesterday...did they go out, or were they lost ? anyway for me to tell ?

We are experiencing some extremely high server loads and we're not sure why this is. I've hired some server consultants to look into the problem and I'm just waiting for their report. Usually the server load is expressed as a number and a typical load is 2 or less, but today and part of yesterday the load has fluxuated between 17 and 55.

I'm fully aware of it and working on it.

Maestrovert -- go to your PM control panel, click on the Sent items folder and you'll see if your PMs were sent or not. But I know of no reason why any PMs would not have gone out unless you happened to send them at the exact moment when the server went down yesterday.

By the way, the problem that come up with the server yesterday was caused by an action that I took when trying to lessen the server load factors. So, this is a problem that we are working on, but we do not believe that it is due to the upgrade in software we made on Sunday.
