Acetone on finish blemishes

In the process of trying to remove the sticker gum left from the pick guard plastic, I had the idea that some acetone nail polish remover would get rid of it. It sure did, along with some of the lacquer on the paint of the body surrounding it. Now I've got streaks of creamy, foggy matte in place of the shiny transparency of the wood beneath. Ugh. What can I do??

Thanks much!

Your finish is likely still OK.

1) In the future, make acetone your last resort to cleaning anything. Mineral spirits, or lighter fluid is a better starting point... that assuming water and soap won't cut it.

2) You simply need to polish the surface to restore the gloss, and the clarity will return. Get some automotive rubbing/polishing compound (not wax) start rubbing with a COTTON towel. I'll bet you can even get there with toothpaste. Toothpaste usually contains some mild grit.
